So I'm editing an older ms and one word keeps popping up for the male character... immune. He's immune to the lateness of the hour, the rain, the cold, the bombs, everything except my MC's bewitching smile.

So I wondered--if you could sum up your character in one word, what would it be?

You can decide if I'm right HJ.

I would say Faith is churlish. (Difficult to work with.)

And Chip is codependent. (Unhealthy psychological reliance of one person on another.)

Hm....one word, eh? I'd say the new MC is easier to do this for: cocky. Sums him up in about every sense of the word. He's a little too impulsive for his own good, too much of a risk-taker, overconfident, all in a way that you know is going to get him into trouble one day.

Eddie was secretive. He kept most things about himself hidden and in a way had trained himself to hide and only show certain parts of himself to the outside world.

I'm still thinking on the other one. He's a lot harder because the words he'd use to describe himself are actually the opposite of how he actually is.

Churlish is excellent, though methinks I see some improvement near the end. ;)

Nice words everyone! Keep 'em coming.

My female MC, I think, would be best described with the word surprised. Pretty much all the way through the book. Poor thing.

Hey, a character's gotta grow. ;)

Surprised. :e2thud:

That's a tough state to be in all the time. I'm not sure if it's funny or cruel. :evil

Cruel. She's dumb as a stump but to be fair some pretty horrible things have happened to her...

Obstinate.

My MC is an office worker. As I worked out the plot I kept worrying why a fairly ordinary woman would struggle against great odds to solve the crime and put the world to rights. She helped me out by possessing an unusual amount of sheer bloody-minded obstinacy.

Let's see... dogged? implacable?

Right at this moment, I want to go with "tired." Girl gets no rest.

At the beginning of the WIP? Overwhelmed.
Lot of stuff going on, a bit lost in it all and on the point of quitting. Different word by the end of the WIP but I figure that's what I should be aiming for. Character growth ;)

My new character, Cassie is...hmmm, not sure I know her well enough yet. Compartmentalized is the best I can come up with. She's tightly wound, that's for sure. :D I'll have to torture that out of her.
