I'm looking for novels (any genre except erotica) where the hero / heroine's internal arc is about forgiveness. By forgiveness I mean the hero / heroine is seeking forgiveness for him / her self for something in their past. Any ideas? Thanks.

HaHa. I'll add 'in print' as another part of the request. (I know there must be tons of examples, I just can't think of any.)

The first novel that immediately sprang to mind when I read this is "The Stand" by Stephen King, and the character I had in mind is named Larry Underwood. While I feel we could split hairs a bit about this character's purpose - perhaps "redemption" is a more appropriate term than "forgiveness" but it does indeed come close - I think this would be a great example. Hope it helps-

Sat Nam! (literally "Truth Name"--a Sikh greeting)

The Secret Life of Bees includes both types of forgiveness, though the self-forgiveness is ambivalent. The Mermaid Chair, also by Sue Monk Kidd, also includes both types of forgiveness.

All the works of Patricia McKillip I've read have included facing personal darkness. But that may not be quite what you're after.

"Miserere: An Autumn Tale" by Teresa Frohock, if you're looking for something in the fantasy genre.
