The other night I was hankering for my "Battlestar Galactica" fix (Friday night on Sci-Fi), and since there aren’t any new episodes for another few weeks, I thought to read the novelization of the new series.
Thing is, the book doesn’t come out for another few days. But I got the author’s name and found his website, to learn more about him and the book.
And lo, what did I discover but a great course in writing SF/F. It’s geared towards beginners, but it’s written in such a conversational way that I found it a good review. There’s everything from world building to dialogue, style to listening to the story, and he even covers point of view in a way that isn’t boring. There’s also great excerpts from a number of novels to help illustrate his points.
