AW. A very nice place!
... was once in a cafe and this guy next to me seemed to at least be writing a story based on a comic strip from a newspaper that he had in front of him on the table. It was only a 3 or 4 panel strip and he had at least a page of writing on his pad. So based on that I suppose it is possible to write a whole book based on a comic book. But then there's the copyright to consider. Drawing inspiration from a comic is okay I suppose, but borrowing from one any more than that is not, as I'm sure you know. G'luck.

If you own the rights to the material. If you are writing fanfic and trying to get it published through a legitimate publisher, the answer is no.

A lot of properties have novel branches.
I've seen novels for the following:
Star Trek
Star Wars
Stargate SG-1/Atlantis
Batman
X-men
Dr. Who
Dungeons and Dragons (Forgotten Realms/Dragon Lance/Greyhawk/Eberron/probably still more)
Warhammer fantasy/40k

Someone either hires or licenses people to write these things so, the concise answer would be: yes, it is possible.

However, what you have to do from there is to navigate the long road that takes you from "I want to write a novel about this comic book character" to "I have been employed by company X, who owns this property, to write said novel"

I don't know too much about this process, but some companies do have submission information on their websites, so that's a good place to start.

I know for Star Trek, Paramount used to have an strange open submission policy where anyone could pitch any project they wanted. I'm not saying many, or even any, of these projects actually happened. I just remember hearing about it on a documentary about Star Trek that I saw a long, long time ago.

Good Luck and if you're not working on any other projects at the moment you might as well work on your project as fan fiction. Every time we write, we get better so even if that story never sees the light of day it will still make you a better writer.

I guess I should finish my first project before I think about another one. I just think it would be awesome to turn one of the else worlds into novel form.
