Shockingly it looks as if there's no thread to commemorate Christopher Eric Hitchens, well known journalist for several publications and famous polemicist, who died of oesophageal cancer on 15/12/2011.
He wrote a variety of frequently controversial books on topics spanning Mother Teresa, Henry Kissinger and the Clintons, amongst others, in addition to several works on atheism and his personal memoirs. He was an avid bibliophile with a tremendous knowledge of literature, particularly the works of Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson and George Orwell, but I can cite several others he would frequently reference just from memory: Voltaire, Camus and the poet John Donne.
One of the few people I had the pleasure to listen to that could actually turn my opinions upside down, he was a treasure of our time and leaves the world a worse place with his passing.
