My crime novel was accepted by a small publisher but I've decided to go indie. I've been told if I upload to Create Space for paper they will then upload to Kindle for $69. Does this make sense? Also, I need recommendations for editors & formatters to help get it up on Create Space. I am not tech savvy. My son, an art school grad, is doing cover.
Thanks for any advice.

Hi Jed,

To me that makes no sense. Why pay that much for something you can do yourself?

Createspace offers templates, which are easy enough to use. You really don't need to be tech savvy, all you need is the ability to use Word and copy/paste the sections of your book.

As for an editor, I would recommend Rhonda Helms. She worked on The Sphinx Project and really made it so much better. I think her website is rhondaedits.com.

What kind of editing are you looking for? Content editing? Line editing? Proofreading?

(I don't ask "copyediting" because folks define that different ways, some skewing it more towards line editing, and others more towards proofreading.)

The type of editing you want affects who you want to hire.

You might want to look into doing your own formatting, to save money—but if you're more concerned about saving time than money, there's nothing wrong with hiring someone. Unfortunately, I've done all my own formatting thus far, so I can't help you there.
