Over the last few years I have wanted to write a book and every time I would start, I’d normally end a few lines later. Next I found out I love to write with pen and paper (I don’t know why but I can get lost just writing like that) and finished my first story. My wife asked if I wanted to get it published, this is were it starts to get confusing for me.
I looked up how to start and everywhere said that a short story is 100-10,000 words, my story is 9,500 so it’s a long short story. Then I looked into children’s books from 6-9 year olds (my age group) a book would be about 1,000-10,000, so, I know my book would fit here nicely. I have been looking for info on what to do next but it always seems to be about novels. one place did say that authors put two or more novellas together to make up a book, so this gave me the idea of writing up a few more stories to get the word count up to 50,000 (novel level) and again I find out that this is harder to get published.
My overall question is what should I do? I would of liked to of been able to send it in to an agent and go down the easier road of getting told ‘good send in the story so we can read it’ or ‘not very good try somewhere else’ (this would of made it a lot simpler for me).
Thank you for taking the time to read this post and I hope you can give me some good info
P.S sorry if this is in the wrong part.
