I'm rereading my first three chapters before I send them to an agent that has requested them. However, everytime I get to this sentence, I have to pause and reread. For the life of my, I can't figure out if it reads wrong, or if my nerves are making me look and find faults where there are none.
Does this sound incorrect?
"With each step that he took across the glossed marble floor, malice and hatred trickled towards him..."
Might it be the sentence structure, the use of 'that' or is it something else?
Thanks for all input.

Purple is my favorite kind of color.
