HELP! So yeah my kindle won't turn on. I tried charging it, but it still won't waken. The screen just shows the screen saver, Charlotte Brunte, and I can't get it to turn on. The light doesn't show or anything. I've tried charging it, but nothing is happening.

I'm trying really hard not to freak out or cry, but I have several books on there. Can someone please help me?

Hoooow did you fix it? What if I have the same problem tomorrow?! What should I do, aside from run in circles flapping my arms? :)

Sometimes you just need to reboot it by holding the slide button on for twenty or so seconds and - all fixed!

The original non-lighted leather (leather-like, I guess) case can cause the Kindle to lock up. That was a known problem when I was having that issue a few months after I bought mine (this was a year or so ago). The lighted cover does not have that problem, and Amazon refunded the cost of my original cover and spotted me a credit toward the lighted one. Mine got so bad that it was locking up almost continuously (having begun with only intermittent failures). I have had no problem with the new cover.

That's actually how I fixed it.

In all seriousness, I just held the on button for 20 seconds. Sorry for the moment of panic.

Glad you figured it out Bell...

I had to go to Kindle support and the tech I chatted with told me this happens from time to time but couldn't tell me why it happens. Told me what to do and it fired right up...
