Welcome to March! This is the 500 words/day thread, where we update each other on our progress.

Please keep self-promotion to the Braggatorium, and off-topic anything is welcome in the Life of Crime and Chocolate thread!

How did you do in February? What are your goals for March?

In Feb. I expected nothing of myself and succeeded! :hooray: Ha! In March, I'm going to shoot for a total of 10,000 words. That's it. I just need to get started again.

Tell me about you!

Aye! After flopping big time the last two months, I need to get a little something going. I think I'm just going to go for the 500 words a day, or 15,000 for the month (with one emergency day off).

I tend to be more the the write 1200 every other day, so maybe it will still work out. ;)

I'm so in. Had a stressful, busy couple of months and now I'm ready to get back to writing. I haven't felt like myself without it.

10,000 words in March sounds doable. I'll try for 500 a day, too, but not get too freaked out if it takes a while to get back into the groove. Consistency is more important than quantity for me.

By the end of March I hope to get the first draft of my WIP finished, so I'm hoping to write in the vicinity of 20,000 words. I wrote more than that in February, so I'm feeling confident I can do it.

Mortiferous March...love it! In February I met wonderful AW-er in QLH who is teaching me a TON. March will mostly be revision for me. I started another novel during NaNo (2010...very traumatic childbirth 13 months ago and just now developing a routine). Between the two I might make 500 a day. Or at least stop in to cheer everyone on.

As you may know, I'm still cutting my ms down from 196K. Last month I finished the second edit and came in at 108K. For March, I'm planning on completing the the third edit, which must take me down to 100K or less.

So I aim to be back in QLH by the end of the month. :)

February was pants. I got just shy of 9K done on the WIP but I think pretty much all of that is going to go, as I have a better way of opening everything now, but don't know whether to stop and go back to rewrite just now or leave it to the first edit.

Also started a few ideas for screenplays - I need to show the college in Canada a 'project I'm passionate about making' and so I need to decide which one and which is most likely to actually work and be good.

Other than that though, no new short stories, nothing of any real value writing wise, thanks mainly to a big bout of flu that turned into a chest infection, and which is only now on the way out.

March will be very busy for me as this is our tourist season starting but I want to just continue on with the WIP and keep on thinking about the screenplay ideas, basically.

My goal is to get this darn thing done, too. Not sure if I'll pull it off. I've gotten so little writing time, but I'm finally giving myself some time off to relax and just get back into the groove. I'm actually at a point now where the writing itself, for the most part, is falling into place, and I'm in that last stretch which is where I can usually pull out the big word counts as long as I make the time to do it.

Maybe I'll reward myself with a video game lol. Every thousand words I get to play for half an hour. :tongue Honestly, though, I'm ready to be finished with this draft because I feel like it's kicked my butt so far. This one was supposed to be fun, not difficult!

Fantabulous February turned out to be more like Fatal February for me. Didn't come close to meeting my goals, but I did make some small progress. Not a total loss.

For March I don't know how much I'll get done. Have too many other things going on. I'm featured on IAN, have 3 events to work with, and I'll be doing tons of interviews and blog stops. With luck, in between all the hoopla, I can finish up the current chapter and at least three more. That's only around 7 - 8 thousand words, so I should have no problem making that goal.

Okay, I managed to yank 574 words out of my brain. It took almost an hour-and-a-half, but I managed to squeeze a little something from the melon. :D

After a horrible end to February, I started strong in March: 1200 words. My previous goal had been to finish my first draft by the end of March, so I'm curious to see if I can get back on pace...

1,471. Wee! Finished off a scene, started a new one, and discovered it's WAY more fun in actuality than what I had planned for it.

Also spent a lot of time today contemplating and sorting out details for the rest of the book, and I think I've actually filled in all the plot holes and fixed all the little problems. Is it weird that I find something oddly scary about that?

Done about 1,000 this afternoon, though it's a bit stoppy-starty. Might end up changing it all back to how it was in the end, but going to see how these changes make it feel.

In February, I finished the three shorts that I set for my goal :e2headban and turned them into the local writers contest last night. I haven't yet submitted one to a magazine but will do it tomorrow. (that was the other half of the goal).

In March, I hope to get through the second act of my plumber mystery while submitting those shorts. Today I put in 650 words and resent a full to an agent whose computer crashed after she got it. That's one good reason to follow up on submissions, no matter how terrifying it is to push "Send" on a nudge letter.

Have a great write!

Lucie

PS: I just found out I have an unexpected day off, so I'll get to up that word count and send the submission today.

3,195 on the WIP today, or thereabouts. Did all the changes to the beginning, except my prologue-y thing which I can't figure out how to end. Still trying to think of the most effective and scary way to kill someone whilst on an EVA.

What's an EVA?

ETA: Busy day after all so only a couple of hundred, but I'm on the right track. More tomorrow. In theory lots more. My aim is to hit 80k by tomorrow, which will be tough, but I might be able to manage it.

Yesterday I rearranged the words in one sentence and deleted three more words. Then the phone rang (which it did with alarming regularity yesterday) and someone needed something so that was it. But still: I opened the WIP!

Oh, sorry. Extra vehicular activity. Spacewalk in other words. Still haven't decided how to kill him.

No words today. Nothing likely until after I finish work.

He could always get a crack in his helmet. (That sucks.)

546 words this morning and it's getting intense. Taking a short break for lunch, then back to it. Goal is to wrap up this chapter and start the next. Already behind on my deadline, so have a lot to make up.

Let's see 654 late last night as a writing exercise of sorts. A short story I'm just playing with and will probably never amount to anything. I'm not sure I want to count it.

Today, I added another 620 to the WIP. Definitely going to count that! ;)
