Japanese Curry issues

So after doing a little research, I bough a box of S&B Golden Curry, chopped up some beef, onions, carrots and potatoes and went to work.

While it's not bad, it's not quite what I expected.

I'm concerned mostly because it was very watery and I had to salt it a bit to be tastier. It really didn't look like any pictures of Japanese Curry I had ever seen.

I'm guessing I used too much water? Though, I'm pretty sure I got it right, but everyone makes mistakes I guess.

Or is this to be expected?

It just looks really weird, like a watery soup rather than the thicker sauce it appears on photographs.
