buying your own book (again) to QC links

any Kindle Fire users out there know how to make your device REALLY delete a book so you can buy it again? I uploaded and then bought my own still only partially ready book to QC the imbedded links when opened on a Kindle Fire. Now I have replaced some links which were too slow or did not work at all and uploaded the corrections. I would happy to pay $2.99 to QC these new links but Kindle won't seem to let me buy the improved version no matter how hard I try. Any ideas?

From your PC or laptop, go to Amazon.com and login, go to your account, then go to "Manage Your Kindle." You'll see your list of downloaded books. There's a drop down box to the right that lists what you can do and one of those things is delete the e-book. This will remove it from all your devices (PC, iPad Kindle app, Kindle, Cloud Reader). You will get a pop-up warning that if you delete the book, you'll need to purchase it again if you want to read it. This is also how you return a book for a refund. It's one of the options.

So there is no way to get a changed version of an ebook, other than buying it again? Cause I looked for that option as well ... It is not my own book, but one of the ebooks I have now has a new, better cover, but I have found no option to re-download it.

If you purchased the book originally from Amazon, I bet you can contact customer service and tell them you want to replace the old edition with the new edition and they will see to it. I have read where authors have uploaded a new version and folks could make a request to Amazon to download the new version. It would seem like a similar scenario.

got an answer from KDP. Have not tried it yet but they say:
To complete your download, please verify that your device is sufficiently charged and your wireless connection is enabled. To manually activate the download, select "Sync & Check for Items" from the Home screen menu. The same will apply if you’re using any other Kindle application, as well. The previous version of your book will be automatically replaced by the updated version.

If this works then no, you don't have to buy the book again --- which was looking to start to get pretty expensive after awhile....

If I understand your post correctly, all you have to do is sync it? I think there is a step missing. I have uploaded a new file, synced my iPad Kindle app, and did not get the newest version. I hope you'll report back when you try it.

I've received two emails in the past from Amazon telling me there was an updated version of a book I bought and that I could receive the new version by responding to the email with "yes" or something to that effect. I don't remember the exact email; it's been a long time since this happened. I'm not even sure if they still do updates this way.

I tried just synching as per the instructions Kindle sent and it does not seem to have uploaded the new version. The problem is that this last edit was an attempt to clean up some minor formatting issues in the table of contents and I cannot tell for sure if it was the the synching or the reformatting that did not work

If I have reason to make a more obvious change I' ll try it again and report back. I do know that I seriously uploaded it 5 or 6 times over the first several days and Kindle never sent me a message saying there was a new version available so maybe they stopped sending messages. Thanks for all the info!

Sherrie, do you use Word, save as HTML, then use MobiPocket? If so, you can download the Kindle app for your PC and check your links from the prc file that Mobi creates. It will open in your Kindle app for PC. If your links work there, they will work once you upload to Amazon KDP.

In case that didn't make sense.
1. Download Kindle for PC.
2. Format your book in Word.
3. Save as web page, filtered (this creates an HTML file).
4. Use MobiPocket to convert your file (this creates a prc file, on my computer it says Kindle right on the file type).
5. Once you hit "build" on MobiPocket, you can open your file in the Kindle for PC.
6. You can check your links now by clicking on them.
7. When everything is the way you want it, then upload it to Amazon KDP.
