Here is a list of 10 things I tend to do as I write. Do you?

1. Hum a tune without noticing.

2. Laugh at my own inside joke.

3. Sometimes (not often) imagine my book is a movie and
write accordingly.

4. Scream at my own MC.

5. Delete everything on page, rewrite, and find nothing has really changed.

6. Wonder why I am not doing something else... it would certainly be less stressful.

7. Stare longingly at my twilight/harry potter books hoping for half the talent and 2 times the success :D

8. Yelling at (insert name) because they are so unhelpful in the developement of my novel.

9. Get half way through, save, start something else entirely.

10. Find any excuse not to sit down, and FINALLY finish one!

1. No.

2. Sometimes.

3. That's just how I write. I picture what's happening in my head and describe it.

4. Nope. He's my own creation, he doesn't do anything I can't control.

5. No, I'm actually really good at writing straight through and not self-editing as I go. NaNoWriMo taught me that.

6. Hmm, I tend to procrastinate from writing and despairing the fact that I sometimes find YouTube and video game reviews more interesting than my own manuscript.

7. Yes. Yes, I do that. Only not with Twilight. With Harry Potter and John Green books.

8. Nope. I'm my own worst enemy when it comes to writing.

9. I used to. I've become a one-track writer, though. Can only work on one project at a time.

10. Yep!

1. Hum a tune without noticing. No, but I do talk to myself as I write.

2. Laugh at my own inside joke. I laugh at some of the jokes/funny things I put in the story.

3. Sometimes (not often) imagine my book is a movie and
write accordingly. Yep.

4. Scream at my own MC. No, but I scream at myself when I can't figure out things though.

5. Delete everything on page, rewrite, and find nothing has really changed. Sometimes. I try not to self-edit first drafts too much, but there are times I can't proceed forward because don't like what I've just written. I just finished a chapter I've re-written several times. I tried to just move on and keep writing, but the next chapter can't move on until I've gotten events correct up to this point. So...I'll be going back and re-doing it again.

6. Wonder why I am not doing something else... it would certainly be less stressful. Sometimes I wonder why I voluntarily submit myself to the trials and frustrations of writing and trying to get published; but then I remember why I do write and everything I love about it, so the feeling never lasts very long.

7. Stare longingly at my twilight/harry potter books hoping for half the talent and 2 times the success :D I get depressed when I look at my HP books and think about how well they're written, so I have them locked away in a room I rarely go in.

8. Yelling at (insert name) because they are so unhelpful in the developement of my novel. No. I yell at my characters sometimes and ask why they don't just tell me their damn story already so I can write it down though.

9. Get half way through, save, start something else entirely. I've never gotten half-way through and stopped, but I have several projects that are a couple chapters long. Once I get 15,000 or 20,000 words in, I keep going until I'm finished.

10. Find any excuse not to sit down, and FINALLY finish one. Of course. I'm doing that right now because I hit a snag in my current WIP and got frustrated. Hooray procrastination!

1.) Yes, but no. I've always got music playing because I have a working playlist.

2.) Depends on how clever I think I am [or not.]

3.)I've got a continuous film reel in my head, so I'll assume that I do, in fact see the story as a movie. Though I'm not entirely sure that we're talking about the same thing.

4.) Not really.

5.)No. I don't delete because I'm always stealing from myself. Even if there's a page worth of crap, there could always be that one diamond somewhere in the rough. If you delete it all, how will you ever find it?

6.)I usually think of writing as cathartic, so, for the most part, it's what makes my life less stressful. I don't know what I'd do with myself if I didn't write.

7.) I have a certain loathing for Twilight, so no, not really. I don't really stare longingly like that at any of my books; however, I have stared longingly at the place my book would be in the bookstore...

8.)Not really. Most of my friends and family understand that I'll pay attention to them after I float back to the top. If we're talking about characters/plot/structure, not really.

9.)Sometimes. Depends on my inspiration, or lack thereof. Aside from that, by nature I was always a poet and a short story writer first, so writing a novel seems completely overwhelming at times.

10.) My day job.

Absolutely to everything but 5 and 9.
I don't delete full sections often unless it is unintentional and then I spend hours trying to make exactly the same.

Ooh, I'll bite.

1. No.

2. All the fricking time. I don't really expect others to, but it's nice that at least I can crack myself up.

3. No, but after it's written I occasionally image the movie adaptation. And pick out actors.

4. No, but she gets a hell of a lot of eye rolls and "Seriously? I wrote someone THAT freakish? Hmm."

5. No, but I imagine I'd cry if that happened.

6. No. I often think about how I SHOULD be doing something else, like my taxes, and then I get sucked back in.

7. Ha, no, but I do go into bookstores and get twitches of melancholy when I look at the space on the shelf where my last name would go.

8. Nah. I'm usually locked away/at a coffee shop where no one will bother me.

9. By the time I'm halfway through, I'm usually too involved to switch stories.

10. No, but it takes me a hell of a long time to actually decide that it's finished.

1. Hum a tune without noticing. No. I usually have complete silence while I'm writing. Even my own humming/singing could throw me off.

2. Laugh at my own inside joke. Sometimes I'll chuckle at an idea or a sentence I've written that I find clever, sure.

3. Sometimes (not often) imagine my book is a movie and
write accordingly. Always. That's how I write my first drafts. I just watch the movie in my head and try to record it in text. :)

4. Scream at my own MC. Nope. But sometimes I want to!

5. Delete everything on page, rewrite, and find nothing has really changed. Sadly, yes. I'm trying to teach myself not to self-edit but it's so hard for me! Definitely one of my weaknesses.

6. Wonder why I am not doing something else... it would certainly be less stressful. Not really. If I don't want to write, I won't. Luckily I love writing and all of the frustrations that come with it.

7. Stare longingly at my twilight/harry potter books hoping for half the talent and 2 times the success. Well, not Twilight. I stare at Twilight and feel a sense of relief at the fact that, no matter how much my WIP sucks, I could always be doing a lot worse. But with Harry Potter, yes. I always find myself wishing I had the world-building skills and creativity J.K. had while writing HP. And who doesn't wish deep down to be that successful?

8. Yelling at (insert name) because they are so unhelpful in the developement of my novel. No. I don't really depend on others to help me through development, but I am always thankful when a piece of advice from a third party is useful to the process.

9. Get half way through, save, start something else entirely. Not half-way through, but I have plenty of 5-10 page long outlines and beginning chapters in my Documents That Shall Not Be Named folder. :)

10. Find any excuse not to sit down, and FINALLY finish one! Of course! Sometimes you just need a break and some YouTube kitties to clear your head. :)

All of 'em at one point or another except the Twilight crap and Harry's Bladder. Not jealous of their success--much:D--but the entire Twilight series is vastly overrated, the movies made me want to carve out my eyes with a rusty spoon, and if I hear one more "You're a wizrd, Harry" comment I will kill whoever says it!

(Not srs...sort of:)).

I usually don't delete much unless I think the paragraph can't be salvaged. And yes, some of my MC's little jokes/asides I do laugh at. Why not? If it's funny, it's funny.

I still hate Twilight, though. No, I don't have to give any other reasons than it being overrated. I don't.

Yes, sometimes, to number 9 only. Usually around 20k-30k, because by then I know if I've got a MAJOR plot issue that I don't know how to fix yet, and leaving it for a while will help me mull it over. Either that or I realize I have no plot, period.

1. Hum a tune without noticing. Nope.

2. Laugh at my own inside joke. All the time. Certainly more than I should.

3. Sometimes (not often) imagine my book is a movie and
write accordingly. Almost all the time, yes.

4. Scream at my own MC. Never.

5. Delete everything on page, rewrite, and find nothing has really changed. No! The delete button rarely is used for more than a few words. (While drafting anyway.)

6. Wonder why I am not doing something else... it would certainly be less stressful. Nope.

7. Stare longingly at my twilight/harry potter books hoping for half the talent and 2 times the success :D Ha, no. Never read Twilight.

8. Yelling at (insert name) because they are so unhelpful in the development of my novel. No.

9. Get half way through, save, start something else entirely. Not recently.

10. Find any excuse not to sit down, and FINALLY finish one! The only excuse I've ever used is that I was stuck, which was true enough.

Translated.
1. Hum a tune without noticing.
Nope. Can't carry a tune with it tied around my neck.
2. Laugh at my own inside joke.
Absolutely. I crack myself up on a regular basis.
3. Sometimes (not often) imagine my book is a movie and
write accordingly.
No.
4. Scream at my own MC.
No. Indulge fantasies of how to torment him further, yes.
5. Delete everything on page, rewrite, and find nothing has really changed.
No.
6. Wonder why I am not doing something else... it would certainly be less stressful.
Ah, no. This is the least stressful part of my life.
7. Stare longingly at my twilight/harry potter books hoping for half the talent and 2 times the success :D
No. More power to JKR. The more readers, the better.
8. Yelling at (insert name) because they are so unhelpful in the developement of my novel.
Not unless you count the dog. He is inconveniently insistent on certain biological imperatives.
9. Get half way through, save, start something else entirely.
Not my personal failing. I have others.
10. Find any excuse not to sit down, and FINALLY finish one!
Nah. I'm made of sheer stubborn dipped in the gravy of persistence.

1. Hum a tune without noticing.
Nope. I tend to sing along to whatever I'm listening to.

2. Laugh at my own inside joke.
Yup. I'm sure it's creepy to watch (and why I don't write in public).

3. Sometimes (not often) imagine my book is a movie and
write accordingly.
From time to time, mostly for the action-y scenes.

4. Scream at my own MC.
No.

5. Delete everything on page, rewrite, and find nothing has really changed.
I'm of the "never delete anything ever" school. Copy pasta to a new document.

6. Wonder why I am not doing something else... it would certainly be less stressful.
Nope. Writing isn't stressful. Now revisions and editing ...

7. Stare longingly at my twilight/harry potter books hoping for half the talent and 2 times the success :D
Considering that I don't have either series, no. In fact, I think the books nearest my desk are my husbands old philosophy textbooks from college. Not exactly aspirational reading for me.

8. Yelling at (insert name) because they are so unhelpful in the development of my novel.
Nope. If I have to talk out a plot problem and a sticky character, I'll chat at the cats. Their response is usually to roll over and glare until I rub their bellies.

9. Get half way through, save, start something else entirely.
More than I care to admit.

10. Find any excuse not to sit down, and FINALLY finish one!
Nah. At least I'm honest with myself when I'm feeling lazy.
