Hey!
I'm Icy100, just getting semi-serious about writing! I've never written formally, sometimes a couple of pages of fiction that's been an assignment. However, as I wrote those I noticed (excuse the cliche) that it was not only engaging my brain (as philosophy does to a much greater extent) but my heart - and so this thread was born.
I'd like to iterate that my interest is purely casual. If anybody can link to some basic writers practice, or even just give me their tips.

I'm also looking for a place to submit short stories just to get general feedback, to be honest i'd be surprised if this forum doesn't have something like that but I don't know where to look.
As a final request i'm looking for a blog (or a thread on this forum) that discuss' and gives tips about writing philosophy.
Thanks a ton,
Icy100.

Not where you last saw me.
Hi, Icy, and welcome to AW. The best place to start is The Newbie Guide to Absolute Write. After that, the next place I recommend is the FAQs found on in the Welcome To AW section of the first page of the forum listing. You'll find the answers to most of your questions there.

You'll have reach 50 posts before you can get feedback on your stories in Share Your Work. The best way to get to that post count is to interact in the community and get to know everyone, and offer a few critiques to others.

Again, welcome!

Welcome to AW. Hope you enjoy your stay with us.
How do you like your popcorn?

If you go to the bottom of the page to the 'forum jump' you can scroll down and find all the areas of this place. After you post 50 posts you can use the SYW areas to get help there. The password for some of the areas is…..vista. A word to the wise, it would be a good idea to participate first in helping others before you think about posting your own work. After you have been around here for awhile, then post something of your own for help. Good luck.

Take some time and read the Newbie Guide and the Stickies found
at the top of Forum pages. They are your best guide to learning about
Absolute Write.

Don’t forget to read the FAQ regarding posting pictures at AW.

Members who want to start a thread in Share Your Work to have work critiqued need
50 posts. Don’t make a mad dash to reach your 50 posts. Take some time to greet fellow newbies,
critique other members’ works, or join a discussion.

Poke around and get a feel for the place. You'll find plenty of folk willing to hand out advice, but remember it's only advice. There isn't a person here who understands your writing better than you.

:welcome:

A couple of ideas for a casual writer. Make sure you always enjoy writing. If it becomes tedious you won't write your best. Also return to your work after a few weeks and read it again. It's surprising what you think of it after a break. Otherwise look around, read what writers advise others in SYW and submit a short story when you have 50 posts.
Good luck

Welcome Icy :) enjoy AW - you will spend a lot of time here having fun reading instead of actually writing in the beginning, I'm sure.
