I’m working on a bullying picture book and was curious to see how Bootsie Barker Bites dealt with the subject. This isn’t a traditional book on bullying where the protagonist and antagonist make nice. Instead of the main character thinks of ways to get “revenge” and the antagonist doesn’t change her ways. For me, this book is more realistic than other bullying books. I felt this book was more of a warning to bullies than a message to the picked on. Though I think I may be the only one who sees it that way.

As far as the illustrations, I wanted them to be more lush, vibrant. I wasn’t a fan of the designated square for each picture. That said, the facial expressions of the characters were very well done. The detail and emotion were spot on.
