Any recommendations for the best writing conferences for YA folks to attend? Or do you guys know of any good resource for finding conferences? I'm having a hard time just finding a list of options.

SCBWI has conferences

Yep. SCBWI has the best conferences for kidlit and YA writers. Almost every region has their own conferences and events. And the US has two national conferences a year; I'm sure other countries probably have big conferences every year, as well.

For what it's worth, I've only been to regional events. And they've all been amazing.

WriteOnCon!

Especially good if you're short on cash and/or live in the middle of nowhere. You get the most out of participating in the forums. Last year agent and editors actual gave ninja critiques (and made requests of quite a few participants). Hopefully they continue to grow and be awesome.

We have a really neat one here, the Colorado Teen Lit Conference, every year. We've had some really awesome YA authors in the past! Its neat, sometimes an author or an editor will look over your manuscript for you.

Definitely. I live in the middle of nowhere, so WriteOnCon was a great option for me. It's also great if you have a busy schedule since they archive all the articles and chats.

What's a ninja critique?

They set up anonymous accounts (literally named Ninja Agent [Color]) and dropped into threads where people posted their first page/chapter or query to give critiques. Or request partials/fulls if you were really lucky.

As several others have said, SCBWI has regional conferences – the UK one is in Winchester in November. They've also got two series of masterclasses (in London and the north) and evening events. I've just joined myself and am looking forward to going to some of these.

More info via the link below – though they haven't updated their conference info for 2012 yet. To join you have to go through the US website and pay in dollars (which isn't too expensive at the moment, with the exchange rate in our favour).

Yessssss, WriteOnCon is fantastic. I got this close to an offer of rep based on a full request I got off an agent there (long story, after a round of revisions she finally passed because she didn't think she had the contacts to sell it, sigh). Great conference.

Rutgers Council on Children's Lit has a great conference that you must be accepted to. See RUCCL.org

The Highlights Foundation workshops are spectacular. I say that based on the reputation alone. One day I shall attend.

Both of those might be worth the travel.
