I'm just trying to stuff this type of book firmly onto a proper genre shelf.

Examples, which are all similar in several ways:
the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson
the Midnighters series by Scott Westerfeld
the Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer (is that MG, though?)

The setting is our world now or in the near future, almost similar to our own, very relatable. There are Sci-Fi elements and paranormal elements and even some urban fantasy elements at the same time.

For those who haven't read those books... well, imagine a story set in 2015, there are fairies, telekinesis, genetic experiments and supercomputers. At the same time.

Maybe science fantasy? But the urban/contemporary aspect is not quite reflected in that.

What about those urban/contemporary fantasy lovers who don't like Sci-Fi--won't they be put off by that? Like, wut, I expected demons & magic & fairies, and you are pushing psionics, gadgets & secret labs at me along with the fairies?

I'd definitely say Midnighters is YA contemporary fantasy. I haven't read the other two.
