Hi, I'm working on a mystery that I'm tentatively titling Hangman.
If you have law enforcement experience, particularly in regards to law enforcement in 1996, that's a plus. But if you're a published mystery writer (whether traditional, self-published, or magazine) that's just as good in my book, because it shows you know your stuff.
I'm open to criticism, as long as you're able to temper it with ways to improve what I've written. Probably goes without saying, but figured it's better to be clear on that type of stuff.
I'm still just in the first draft, but I'm of the opinion the earlier you start, the better it'll be. I've finished the first chapter, and have begun the second chapter.
The only plan I have right now in terms of length is that each chapter has to be at least 1,000 words, so target is about 60-75 chapters, depending on the variations in length. For example, the first chapter is just over 3000 words.
In general terms, the plot is thus: the antagonist is an experienced serial killer who, wanting to throw people off his trail, comes to Utah and begins a new signature MO, though some of his original MO is still there. The protagonist of the story is a detective who has the unique ability of putting himself into the shoes of the perpetrator he's tracking, though he's never had anything like training in profiling. This is the first in what I hope will be a series involving the detective.
Currently debating whether to have FBI involved or not.
Anyways, if someone's willing to do this, that'd be great. I like to think I'm a good writer, but I never know when I'm putting in too much or too little detail.
