As a native Delawarean, I sometimes wonder about any stereotypical views non-natives have of our little state. A recent SNL skit made us seem pretty dorky. But anyway...

Greetings! I'm so glad to be among other writers. I'm hoping I'll be able to make some humble contributions to this group that has already made me feel welcome. I'm also hoping that being a part of the group will inspire me to get to the point where I can start submitting my novel. I began working on it close to seven years ago, got to the last sentence about four years ago, and just keep finding more things that need fixing as I go through it "one last time," which leads to the next "one last time," etc. I've read that writing is the best way to learn to write, and I suppose that's true; the story really does seem to be improving as I continue writing.

Thanks for letting me join you all!

Behind you!
A pleasure to have you join us, Amy.

I stopped watching SNL years ago, since it had stopped being funny. Seriously, they concocted a sketch based on Delaware stereotypes? The phrase for that isn't exactly "laff riot," is it?

Maryn, glad to meet you

Hello, and welcome! Been to Delaware once back when I was a driver, had a delivery there. Only saw the brief northern part of the state before driving into Maryland.

I love DE, lived there a few months and have some friends in Wilmington. Beautiful state, and no taxes! :)

It's always comforting to know you're not the only one for whom "one last time" is never the last. I too thought I knew how to write, only to find out I didn't know anything.

This forum is great, you'll learn a lot and also have fun. Welcome!

Welcome to AW. Hope you enjoy your stay with us.
How do you like your popcorn?

If you go to the bottom of the page to the 'forum jump' you can scroll down and find all the areas of this place. After you post 50 posts you can use the SYW areas to get help there. The password for some of the areas is…..vista. A word to the wise, it would be a good idea to participate first in helping others before you think about posting your own work. After you have been around here for awhile, then post something of your own for help. Good luck.

Welcome Amy! Writing is the best kind of practice in my opinion. I always feel the more I write the better I get.

:welcome:Welcome to Absolute Write!

This is a great place to network with writers! Check out The Newbie Guide To Absolute Write for more info on the site.

I don't think you should take SNL's opinion of Delaware personally - I think every state has dorks according to SNL. Especially Alaska :)

I can tell you from California, no preconceptions about Delaware! At least from people I know.
