Hello everyone,
I've introduced myself in the 'New Members' forum and thought that I was also introduce myself here.

I'm Andy, married with two children. I live in the UK.

My wife has always read erotic literature, I get the 'hand me downs' after she has finished with them.
I have written several (very) short stories for her to read and she has said that I could write a book. I've only written for her before
Encouraged by this I am about three quarters of the way through a short book. It will be around 5 chapters, I'm up to around 7000 words to date.
To be honest I'm not sure how to describe it, A short book, A short story.......

I joined the forum to improve my writing skills.
I am probably very, very amateur compared to you guys and if I improve and I produce some reasonable work I may think of self publishing on the web as a bit of a hobby.

So that's me, hi to everyone on this forum and I hope to catch up with some of you in the near future

Andy x

Behind you!
Nice to meet you, Andy.

There's a term for that in-between word count: novella. A good number of e-publishers actively seek them, even. So you can announce to all who care to hear that you're well into the novella you're writing. Sounds impressive, yes?

Maryn, fairly close to your word count, as a matter of fact

Hi, Andy!

Novellas are good training. You get more room to develop story and character than a 5K short story, but it's not the mind-numbing effort of an 80K - 100K book. And as Maryn said, lots of publishers are looking for novellas. You might want to check out some of your favorite publishers online and see if they have any open calls for novellas. Even if you don't make it this round, the guidelines and time limit can give you some structure for your experiments.

Kudos for taking the first step from reading a genre to writing it. I made the same leap last year in late February, when a story decided it was an erotic romance.

Hey, welcome :D I love writing short 'scenes' and novellas, and greatly enjoy longer, more drawn out stories, and everywhere in between. I let the story dictate the length.

My partner first started writing smut for me - and vice versa :)

I try to let the work dictate the length, but there's always that temptation of "with only 1000 words more, it would fit so-and-so's novel requirements"...

To add my two bits, welcome to the site. There are scads of resources available here to help improve your writing. And for help afterwards when it comes to markets and publishers. Some of the best are the writing exercises and challenges, such as Maryn's monthly prompt. They've helped me immensely in the time I've been here, even in my writing. I hardly ever get my mords wixed anymore.
