Sounds like an essay for an MA in Publishing Studies.
Why don't you tell us your thoughts first?
As e-reads become cheaper we are already beginning to see how things will become. Much the same as syfy writers have been saying in their works for a very long time. But what worries me is the move towards tablets ie Ipad. The general public have moved away from reading to watching or at least in the lower paid world that I live. I can see this increasing as tablets replace e-readers which will happen. Why have a reading device when you can have something better offering more? There will always be books but the percentage of the population that will enjoy them will shrink I believe. Not to worry though because this will be offset by the growth in overall population growth world wide.
I suggest a thread-title change:
The Search Feature: Where is it Taking us?
Hopefully, to the myriad of threads in multiple sub-forums already dealing with this topic.
