Hello everyone! I absolutely LOVE coming up with new characters. I always have. I would love to talk with an artist about seeing if we could make a book. Anyone interested? Maybe we could even make a contest out of 2 or more teams creating a book from the ground up and having others judge the final result? Let me know what you all think, I look forward to seeing if there is any interest about creating comic books on this site!

You probably won't have much luck here, especially without providing more information, such as plot, your experience, color or b&w, pay, prize, etc. If a just for fun thing, you'll probably get more nibbles once artists get to know you on various forums.

Ok. Thanks, I understand. That is understandable. I was just hoping to see if someone was interested in something for fun. I appreciate your response.

You can find someone, but it'll take time. I encourage you to check out some of the forums in the links I mentioned. There's also a healthy art and comic -- writers, agents, publishers and artists -- community on Twitter and G+. Interact, sick around, and get to know people.

as I have suggested before, you can try searching for an art on the Digital Webbing forum.

Time is money. You'll see better results if you offer some form of payment to the artists.

As bicyclefish already said, the following info will be useful in helpnig artists decide if this project is something they want to be involved in:

plot, your experience, color or b&w, pay, prize, etc.

Or if not payment some kind of plan to reach some kind of audience--and some kind of outline of your concepts. People who can produce good art can pick and choose. People who can produce mediocre art... well...

well, I think everyone knows that.

I did get a fair bit of interest when I posted my idea for a webcomic on Digital Webbing. most not from professional-level artists, though. and in some cases from completely inappropriate artists who had not read my post very well or, apparently, at all.

one artist basically won me over with her enthusiasm, though things have gone very slowly because she her other commitments.

in the end I decided that I would have to teach myself how to draw better so as to not rely on other people.

you have to have a good pitch. have a good title and a good concept. and by "good" I mean original. and if you don't have that original a concept, at least spin it such a way that it does.

Please don't take this as anyone dissuading you from trying or implying you give up on anything. The advice folk like Veinglory and Ria13 offer are ways to present yourself favorably and various options you have. Unfortunately for writers with little to no capital and credentials, it can be tough to find someone to draw their ideas who won't get bored or distracted or.... SQUIRREL! *runs off*

I am, at this point, a former rather than current artist--as I found writing more profitable. But back in the day I at least needed a good idea or collaborator of demonstrable talent waved under my nose before jumping on board.

I want to reiterate that if you have a brilliant idea and/or a great title that it will make your job so much easier.
(secondary goal: make sure that artists have a pretty good idea of the kind of art style you want.) if you have an uninteresting and generic or vague premise that will not, I think, interest artists.

I placed a Craigslist ad years ago and I had so many responses that I had to pretty much beat them off with a stick. this has not happened since, sadly, but then I have not posted to Craigslist lately. (no one had really the art style that I looked for and unfortunately because of a hard drive crash I could not contact any of the artists for future projects.)

This is a series of great responses. I hear what y'all are trying to say.

I guess my art needs would be classic comic art. I am not a fan of manga or Japanese style art.

I have several ideas for characters and story lines.

This is the first place I have not felt uneasy about sharing concepts without someone stealing them. I want to know about someone's ability and I will share ideas. I see the skeptical side of the the artist mentality.

Thanks everyone of adding your ideas.

you have to get more specific than just "classic comic art" or "not manga", though. mention specific artists or comics, etc.

The 80's had a specific feel to them. There was not an artist or style I can describe that would pin point this style. The general feel was "round". When someone drew a face, the face was not pointed or even stylistic. I guess that is why i am having trouble finding an artist, i can not succinctly describe the are type I am looking for.

Yeah. Romita? Kirby? Infantino? Steranko? Kubert? Ditko? Giordano? Wrightson? Pérez? Chaykin? Kaluta? Windsor-Smith? Truman? McFarlane?

What sort of classical comic art did you have in mind? There's a lot of variety.

Rob Liefeld? *innocent smile*

For your enjoyment: this and the ever "classic" this.

In all seriousness though, examples of artists or certain comics with the feel you want help, as even what qualifies as manga can be subjective. Some people, for example, think Becky Cloonan's work "too manga". Others think manga is all Naruto and CLAMP.

then go back and research that era and find examples of what you mean. actually it sounds a bit like John Romita Junior, whose style has not changed much from then, or Paul Smith.

jack kirby's later work is what i am referencing to. Though after doing the research, i noticed that a lot of his work looks like him in the face. If you get a chance, google his name and look at his pics along with his characters faces. I laughed when i saw his face on one of his hulk's as well as captain america.

The style i am looking for is a natural cartoon feel. Like anything you would have seen on a Saturday morning cartoon in the 80's.

Nothing too stylized.

well, artists do tend to try variants on themselves.
