If you haven't already discovered Linux, I can't recommend it highly enough. Linux is a free operating system -- several, in fact -- that avoids a lot of the problems of Windows. There are a number of versions, called distros, such as Ubuntu, Fedora, which are all available from Linux.com, or from individual websites, such as Ubuntu.com. They all come with Open Office suite, which does everything the Windows versions do, Firefox, games, and other good stuff. Their connections to some peripherals don't even need drivers. And it's all free.
If you live in the Phila-South Jersey area, I can also recommend NTR (Nonprofit Technology Resources) computer thrift store for your computing needs. They also will take in old equipment for recycling. I have seen setups there -- CPU, monitor, keyboard and mouse -- for under $100. There's a lot of gear at prices much lower than the outlets.

MOD NOTE:
1) Moved to a more appropriate venue.
2) While not flavors of Linux "come with Open Office suite" (and these days Libre Office is the ongoing flavor of that word processing suite) I can most certainly give a +1 to Linux OS computers.
3) Not so sure about the business promo in this post, MMcQuown. Not really copacetic. Not suggesting any sinister or commercial motivation. Just pointing out that AW does not endorse any particular OS, manufacturer or company.

Perhaps the OP misread the previous forum name for this discussion as Open Office Party.
And yeah, that last bit sounds an awful lot like a shameless plug for a "computer thrift store."

I'm not asking AW to endorse anything. I just found this place and thought it might be helpful for people with not a lot of money. And yes, it's now called 'Libre Open Office.' Screw you and your attitude!

Screw you and your attitude!
"Can you hammer a six-inch spike through a board with your penis?"
My attitude's gotta have its standards. :)
The "Libre Office" (Not "Open Office") is an important distinction, mostly because the Libre Office is continuing to be supported (updated) whereas Open Office is not.
As for the rest of it, it's not about you or me. As indicated in my first post in this thread, it never was.
Onward!
ETA: Oh yeah, reppies for those what get the reference.

Well, no.
That's just not how things work here. Good luck elsewhere on the Internet -- because you're all finished in this community.
