Oh, I was thinking more along the lines of short story writing with a humorous angle. Or perhaps something like Bill Bryson's "A Walk in the Woods," which is a full-length travel memoir.

I'm Canadian, so that might explain why I'm also a big fan of Stuart McLean and Will Ferguson.

Probably the library.
"A Walk in the Woods" is sitting right behind my head right now, but I haven't read it yet... :D I've read a few of his books and enjoyed them, though.

Welcome :)

Thanks for the warm welcome from all of you.

My wife and I recently moved out east from Vancouver, and we are already missing the West Coast. So hi right back to you Sea Witch! :)

I'm a Bryson fanboy, so please, keep me posted if his humor is what your hope to immitate.

I've been writing comedy scripts for years. My fiction usually has places for humorous release, too. I am a Jean Shepherd fan.

Summitman and Humor

I absolutely do enjoy humor in writing. It's also one of the hardest things to achieve consistently. The writing gets no help from facial expression or body language. Writing humor seems to turn on witty twists in ideas and wording, sometimes on word play and double entendres. I'm always delighted when I read it and, rarely, when I can pull it off myself.

Welcome to AW. Hope you enjoy your stay with us.
How do you like your popcorn?

If you go to the bottom of the page to the 'forum jump' you can scroll down and find all the areas of this place. After you post 50 posts you can use the SYW areas to get help there. The password for some of the areas is…..vista. A word to the wise, it would be a good idea to participate first in helping others before you think about posting your own work. After you have been around here for awhile, then post something of your own for help. Good luck.

Welcome! I love humor writing, especially by Douglas Adams, Veronica Geng, James Thurber, and SJ Perelman.
