Hello all. I will try to be brief!
I submitted a short horror story to a small publishing company about a year and a half ago. They liked it and emailed they were interested in publishing it. They would email occasionally to continue to express interest over the months that followed. Finally they told me they were going to publish a horror story anthology in October 2011 and my story fit in! I was asked my for address for my free copy and contract.
Well, the anthology was published, my story is included, but I have yet to receive a contract. I have emailed my contact twice and have not received any reply in return.
The company has been around a few years, published other authors, sells on Amazon, and I have even purchased a few copies on Amazon for gifts and the book looks very nice and professional.
Except for this problem, everything seems professional and on the up and up. This is my first story published and I am a very patient person and kept hoping the contract would come and that would be that. Thats why I have not yet called them. I also realize I am not going to make much money with this.... if any.... but still, it would be nice to receive that first contract!
Now its starting to concern me and I want to take the appropriate steps.
I ask two things. What would be the next step to take (I am guessing to call them lol), and what would be an appropriate amount to receive for my story (as I now am a bit dubious about this company) The anthology has 4 stories of which one is mine. $200 flat fee? A nickel royalty a book?
Thanks so much for reading this and any constructive help! I just want to get some more info before I call and raise some hades! Thanks.
Tim
