Inspired and slightly rooted in Anime

It wouldn't be a good idea to write a series that already exists as a novel. You want to write your own stories, not someone else's. If you want to write inside the universe of that anime, but with a different story, it's called fan-fiction. Lots of people do it, all the time. (Check out fanfiction.net). A lot of people discourage writing fan-fiction in young writers. It can stop you from developing your own ideas, learning to write characters and other skills that you need to write good novels. You're also writing without any chance of compensation - you can't sell fan-fiction without breaking copy-right laws.

That said, fan-fiction is a fun way to practice the art of writing. My first writing attempts were Digimon fan-fiction. It was self-insert, and it was terrible writing. But it was good for me anyway, I think.

My advice? Write what you feel like for now. Have fun while you write. Anything that inspires you to write is a good thing. When you've learned more about writing, you can worry about being an 'iconic writer'.

Fanfic is fun really good way to get juices flowing. ^^

She wants to be an iconic writer, not ironic.

There's also the differences in form to worry about. Certain things work in films and comics that do not work in prose, and vice-versa. One reason fanfiction tends to flop is because the writer only has experience indulging in more visual media.

Fortunately, even if you're a dedicated Japanophile, there are quite a few popular and acclaimed Japanese novelists out there.

I love anime and manga and the problem with mixing that with writing is if I'm on an anime kick everything I write will sort of be trying to be anime. And it always turn out terribly. They are two different mediums and as domino derval pointed out things that work moving on a screen do not always work in the written word.

My advice is to read. Learn what works in a book (or doesn't work depending on the book), and write down your ideas that you get while watching an anime. There's nothing wrong with being inspired by it. But then remember that the cool things about anime aren't always the cool things about books.

Read, read widely.
There are some novelizations of anime and manga out there, that might be a good place to start.
