Hi all.
I found this site after researching into a small publisher (thank God for this site is all I'm saying!!).
Briefly, I'm a quality assurance officer for a charity, ex-legal PA and have worked in grantmaking, web design, equalities & diversity and anything else that'll pay the mortgage.
I'm a long term sci-fi geek with an interest in horror. I grew up on Marvel/DC and scifi books, and Hollywood/Hammer. I first got interested in writing at school but a false and unfounded accusation of plagiarism by my teacher knocked my writing confidence. I didn't bother again until 2008 when a tinker with fanfic for fun made me realise just how much I'd missed it.
Being cursed with an autoimmune joint disease and a balance disorder means I'll never make be a career writer, even if I had the talent/skill. But I tinker with writing, photography and art and have made some wonderful friends and contacts. I was lucky enough to find a wonderful, small independent publisher who gave me a lot of help and support with my first ever submission. This culiminated in my first e-published horror story, 'Incurable'.
I'm here to learn, to hopefully not make the mistakes other new writers make, and to defer to those with more experience. I nearly made one huge mistake very recently; this site confirmed what I suspected. Thanks!
