Two Recent Cancellations: Allen Gregory and Work It. What a relief!

I tried to watch Allen Gregory. I mean, the neverending promos for it made it look weird and stupid, but I didn't let that stop me. So, either I caught portions of it and/or tried watching from the beginning. But I couldn't. It was so unpleasant just to look at that I gave up on it.

I couldn't wrap my brain around the fact that the lead character was seven years old who for some reason looked like Janet Reno. He talked like an adult in an adult voice but attended grade school, and was sexually attracted to his school principal who was in her 80s. How is this good television? But the stories didn't seem to center around him. The other characters, his father and other people all seemed to be on screen most of the time, and they were all just awful to look at and listen to. I wound up hating it and discovered that most of the reviews online and bloggers all agreed the show was terrible. It will not be missed.

Meanwhile, ABC launched a "new" version of the classic Bosom Buddies called "Work It." I gave it a chance because the characters were unemployed and desperate for jobs. Hey, that's me! They find out about a company hiring women only, so they dress up as women and interview and--for some reason--get hired. I mean, they looked like men so much that you wondered why the other women in the office never said anything! Then the unspoken issues like, will the main character's wife ever know he's doing this? Ever? Isn't he concerned someone in the company will figure it out? Especially if they ever have to take insurance physicals. And on and on.

I knew Work It would be cancelled. It was a given. I predicted it would be gone by the end of January. I intended to watch the second episode, but forgot. Now, after two episodes, it's cancelled. No surprise.

Next on the chopping block: Napolean Dynamite. What do you think? I actually never saw the movie (no interest in it), and found the endless promos irritating. I tried watching the show, but found it annoying and reminiscient somehow of Family Guy, but not in a good way. This review sums up the first episode's failings better than I can. As I said, I never saw the movie, but like Allen Gregory (and Bob's Burgers), I found the animation unpleasant to look at, no offense to fans the movie.

(Did it really get canceled almost immediately after premiering? Reminds me of a show called Wonderland from a few years ago; set at a psych hospital modeled after New York's Bellview. Think it aired three episodes.)

Do you mean Napolean or Allen Gregory? Napolean just premiered Sunday. Judging by some of the online reviews of it, I can't see it lasting long. Fans of the movie don't seem to like it.

Didn't see, or have any interest in, Working It. Curious about the level of verisimilitude. How did they logically justify a company hiring only women?

It was some sort of company that manufactured/sold women's products, I think. The main character overheard someone saying that the company was currently hiring for sales, but preferred female over male candidates. So, he went dressed as a woman and got the job. He looked a lot like Scott Bakula in a dress.
