Under the terms of the settlement, the license granted to Interplay to develop the Fallout MMO is null and void, and all rights granted to Interplay to develop a Fallout MMO revert back to Bethesda, effective immediately. Interplay has no ongoing right to use the Fallout brand or any Fallout intellectual property for any game development.

I think this is the best outcome. Bethesda might not be perfect, but they have resurrected the IP, and have made it come alive for millions of players after the IP had been dead for a number of years.

Now Bethesda gets the freedom to continue to work on the IP, without this cloud over it. And who knows, maybe we'll see a Fallout MMO in the future? That would be so awesome.

I think that even though they have the rights to it, they'll still probably get another developer to do it. Bethesda has said before they want to stick to doing what they do best - single player games.

I would absolutely love more games in the Fallout series though. I loved Fallout 3 and New Vegas. And a Fallout MMO? That'd be VERY tempting.

Come back to me when it's a Fallout: Equestria MMO and we can talk. :p

The setting is ripe for an MMO, but it has to be done right. Bethesda has bought a lot of faith from me. I think we'd see Something Good(tm).

The good thing about this is... The people at Interplay that made the original Fallouts are now working for Obsidian Studios, which made Fallout: New Vegas. So, the creators of Fallout are now working for Bethesda. Interplay isn't anything like it used to be, and is owned by a vulture venture capitalist called Herve Caen. Fallout would have been utterly destroyed in his hands.

If Bethesda is smart, they let Obsidian do the Fallouts, while Bethesda concentrate on their baby, the Elder Scrolls. I think they did a good job with Skyrim, right? Fallout is Obsidian's baby anyway, because the people that work there created the originals.

I liked Fallout New Vegas better than Fallout 3, but I really hope Obsidian is able to put out a less buggy MMO. The comparrison for bugs in Fallout 3 vs. Fallout NV is pretty substantial.

And Neverwinter Nights 2 makes me want to kill myself.

I honestly doubt there will be a Fallout MMO. ZeniMax, the parent company of Bethesda, has an online games unit, yes, but it has been working on a secret project that has nothing to do with Fallout since 2004. Bethesda bought the Fallout IP in 2007. I don't think they'll try to work on two MMO projects at the same time considering the massive cost of development for those things.

I'd love a Fallout MMO, kind of tired of all the fantasy MMO's, and their post-apoc world is much more interesting. But yeah, I doubt it'll ever happen, too.

But if BioWare can do it (supposedly SW:TOR is doing well, right?) ... so who knows.

I'm excited for The Secret World, but I'm a bit nervous about it too...

I'm going to be throwing my time into Guild Wars 2 at this point.

And you can never tell if an MMO is doing well in the first month or two after release. It's after that when you see if subscriptions go up or down.
