So, I've got a pile of short fiction that I can't find homes for anywhere. The stories aren't bad--enough strangers and English teachers have said the stories were, at worst, readable, and on the other end of the spectrum, very very good. I'm not a bad writer, and I'm kind of annoyed at myself for letting the short fiction market make me think I am.
I really want to look into self publishing my short stories, but I'm not sure where to start. My basic concept would be to mimic successful webcomic strategies--free flash fiction every so often--with PDF / eReader versions of the longer stories available for $.50 (perhaps with illustrations).
I've never heard of anyone doing this with short fiction, though, and I was wondering what the community here thought of the idea. On one hand, I'd feel like I was throwing out first publication (and a few other) rights. On the other... at least they'd be getting used.
