...the one you love? Your folks? Your imaginary friend? That unforgettable childhood dog?

Penning White Horse's dedication was the easiest part of the whole writing process, for me. It was basically set in stone the day that thing decided to gain a couple of hundred pounds, sprawl across the page, and grow from a short to a novel. I won't tell you what it reads, yet, but it's perfect (and yes, romantic).

So, since I'm incredibly nosy, to whom would you dedicate your novel, and what would it read? :D

I'm not sure what it would read exactly at this point, I'm only in Editing #1 phase. However, it will be dedicated to my Nanny. She was my Dad's mother and she instilled in me the passion I have for life. It is in her memory that I continue to live on.

Definitely dedicated to my husband who pushed me to write it and helped out anywhere he was needed to give me time to write. He supplied ideas, made me coffee and took our little boys to the park to give me a quiet house just to name a few things.

I just hope someday it gets good enough to actually be published and I can really write a dedication. Right now it is in the bare bones first draft stage and I've only touched my toe in the water of editing it.

My husband. Couldn't have done it without him. There is one that, if published, will be dedicated to my mother-in-law.

When I publish a novel I'm dedicating it to my mother. She encouraged my writing more than anyone else, and I feel like I'm writing for her even now. As to the exact words? I don't know. I'd have to think about that for a while.

My YA contemporary is split between my grandfather and my old basketball coach. It's going to be sorta emotional to write, but I'm going to do my best.

I don't have a clue. My dad is a good candidate, but if I did that my mom would be upset. Maybe a certain three English teachers who keep in touch and have always encouraged everything, but especially my writing. Or that guy I married, who said if I dedicate to anyone but him he'll be pissed. Decisions, decisions. :D

I have one written, but I want to dedicate it to about forty-six people and I think that's going to look funny.

I'll probably shorten it to my husband and two daughters and my writing partner. I can have four, right?

If my laptop were sentient, I'd dedicate my novel to my laptop...
Ha, ignore me.
My parents weren't involved with the writing process--then again, nobody except myself was really involved. I might dedicate it to "people" not yet walking the planet...

The dedication of my first novel (whichever one it ends up being) will be to my brothers, who were both Marines (one still serving, one now a civilian again), both of whom have earned my undying respect. And like Marines, it'll get directly to the point:

To
Corporal (Brother's Name), USMC
and
Sergeant (Brother's Name), USMC
"Protectors of all we know."

AW. A very nice place!
... if I manage to get a novel published by some miracle then I am really unsure who I'd dedicate it to. Maybe to my agent if I can manage to get one of those by another miracle. If I dedicated it to any one whom I personally know and they saw it they would probably demand me to contact the publisher, at once, and get it crossed out. (A public acknowledgment of our acquaintanceship would be too much for them to handle.)

I dedicated one of my books to Dr Pepper for being, quote, "the caffeine beneath my wings." :D

ETA: My favorite of my dedications was "To everyone who ever said I couldn't."

If I ever finish my current WIP, it'll probably be dedicated to my mum and grandmother.

My first novel was to my mum, my second to my dad.

My dad didn't like the book I dedicated to him. lol. He seems to think he was cheated, since it's the first in a series rather than stand alone. I think he's edging for the entire series.

I was debating the whole time I was writing whether to dedicate to my mom or my wife, both of whom had been extremely encouraging to me over the years. But the book is about a man who loses his only son, and how the grief nearly drives him mad. It's about how much he loves his child. There's honestly only one source for the inspiration of a book like that, and when I was staring at the blank dedication page I realized I had to dedicate to my children.

Well, of course, several family members and I wouldn't run out of them, but I decided to switch tactics. I'm now dedicating all future books to the writers who personally, in some great way, influenced me and started this bizarre vocation of mine. Poul Anderson and Alan Dean Foster have been credited. Up to bat are: Joseph Wambaugh, Crichton, Peter Benchley, and I'm thinking Bob Heinlein, for the next honors.

My first novel was dedicated to two of the people who were "first" influences in my writing: Sister Rosemary, my first grade teacher (for those playing overseas, I was about 7 at the time) who noticed I had a talent for writing stories (she also noticed I have a talent for clutching under the pressure of a deadline), and Lee Pelton, the first guy who edited one of my short stories and helped me notice things about my writing I shouldn't do.
