Not sure if there's a thread for this one already, but I just finished reading it and I had to rant somewhere that I wouldn't spoil people... WHAT THE FLYING EFF JUST HAPPENED.

I swear to flying spaghetti monster, if he kills Jon too I WILL HUNT HIM DOWN :|
Also. R'hllor creeps me the hell out. And wtf, why did they drag Catelyn back, she was happier dead <.<

Best book in the series (note: I haven't read the Dance with Dragon's book yet).

I was in complete shock at the Red Wedding where Robb and Catelyn were killed and even more shocked (like holy shit I didn't see that coming shocked) when we saw Catelyn is back.

I would love to go in a deep discussion about this book so if you have more comments post them.

Yes! I stopped reading for a few days after the Red Wedding. I could not handle that >.< Because the whole last two books I'd been rooting for the Starks to take back the north, and then suddenly... impossible. I dunno, I respect that Martin's not afraid to kill off characters, since when an author tries to be nice to their MCs, that does make it predictable, but.... I think that if he kills off too many more of the "good" guys I might lose interest. Because there's only so much soul-crushing hope-sucking I can take before I need to read something with a shred of positive energy? Lol.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the book! I'm just afraid to read the next two now... haha. The third was definitely packed with the most twists so far. And the ending did get a little bit more hopeful, between Tyrion finally standing up to his douchebag dad, and Jaime not being such a pretentious dick as when we first met him...
I didn't expect to see Cat back either. wtf. I'm still not sure I trust her or Dondarrion. The whole "oh R'hllor brings people back to life with the breath of fire" is a lil bit too wight-ish for me... :/

I really love Robb. I am kind of hoping he turned up to the winner in the struggle to be the king of Westeros. I don't like it that the author simply killed him off. Maybe it is me, but I prefer story with a happier ending, especially for the characters I had come to cherish and love.

I'm thinking back to this book now and it's amazing. Robb was never a main character, but I was so sad when he was killed off.

Wait til you get to books 4 and 5. Both drag a little here and there, but Martin is not done shocking his readers...

As to the Red Wedding, Rob was just a boy and did not know better. Cat was the fool for trusting the Fray's. Her father never trusted the Frays, nor did her husband, Ned.

She should have been more forceful with Rob, even if it meant belittling him in front of his men.

I don't think Cat was a fool. Remember, once offered bread and wine you were a guest. If I remember it correctly, NO ONE broke that rule because you would be like sent to hell or something. If you remember she was adamant on getting offered bread and wine.

Yes, and Martin set it up beautifully with the bread and wine.

But what you forget is that Rob broke his pledge to old man Fray's by marrying someone other than a Fray. Do you really believe old man Fray would keep a tradition after Rob broke his pledge? Ned would not have broken his pledge. Jon is proof of his loyalty and honor and Cat should have been more forceful with Rob.

Think about it, Kingdoms and houses often went to war over some perceived slight and Rob committed a big one. Besides, Fray had a history of not being trustworthy.

Personally, leading up the Red Wedding, I was just wondering what the point is of having a magical danger-detector wolf, if you DON'T PAY ATTENTION WHEN IT FLIPS OUT... I mean, Catelyn in the past paid attention to Grey Wind whenever he was being freaky. She should've known something serious was up when he leapt at the Freys as soon as they were heading into the castle for the wedding...

Plus Roose Bolton. Just, no one should ever trust him. Wtf, medieval serial killer much? <.<
