There are so many different kinds of vampire stories you're bound to find
something that holds your interest. But then, seeing as I've been reading supernatural stuff since the
The Bailey School Kids and
Goosebumps, I might be a little biased.
Dracula's a great one to start with. You wouldn't even have to pay for it, since it's out of copyright and on the internet and all.
'Salem's Lot is good, too. I recommend it if you like fantasy because the character/worldbuilding is really thorough (if you've read any of King's other stuff you know what I'm talking about).
Let the Right One In wins the award for creepiest vampire book I've ever read. The movie is equally good (maybe even a little better...I'm pretty sure the author wrote the script).
I'd recommend the YA novel
Peeps if you're interested in a scientific approach to the subject. It's pretty funny, too.
You might read
Twilight just to know what all the hubbub is about (I actually have a friend who read the whole series for the sole purpose of being able to criticize it...but I figure the fact that she finished them as fast as she did meant she must've found them at least somewhat entertaining

)
Hmm I feel like this list should be longer...I feel like I've seen more movies/TV shows than books, honestly...
Trublood might be worth a look.
Daybreakers was cool too, since it's set in a reality where almost everyone's a vampire (both are pretty violent though).
