now I need to know how to close a thread! (man i still have a lot to learn...)
You'll have to ask a moderator of that room to close the thread for you. If it's a newer discussion with little or no activity, it shouldn't be a problem. It will be up to the mod, though, since most threads aren't closed based simply on the whim of the original poster.

Oh, sorry. I thought you were being serious. The issue does come up from time to time, and some members have been surprised to learn that they can't close threads they've started on their own. Most mods are pretty good about doing so for them, if the reasons are valid. (Except for me. I very rarely close threads, even when I probably should, for everyone's sake. I just let them heat up uncontrollably until they explode and burn out on their own...) ;)

I guess the sarcasm didn't come across too well when I typed it Silver King! :)

Since you are "still learning" the point you make here about satire not coming across well in type... can sometimes be augmented with some of the other 'smilies' available to you.

Often AWer's will use a 'colon capitol D' for this smiley :D to indicate satire or a smary intention, or the 'semi-colon and )' to show a wink ;), or sometimes we'll go so far as one of these: :sarcasm

The entire list of smilies available to you can be found on this link:

http://absolutewrite.com/forums/misc.php?do=showsmilies

or... it can also be accessed under the control panel in the 'advanced' post window. Of course, if you'd rather stick with text a *satire* might help as well.

Do enjoy you're stay!

*slaps fish* ;)
