Probably a silly question, but I've never had beta readers before other than family, who never give you an honest opinion even if they try to.
I've just finished my latest story - which is my first ever MG novel.
I'm putting it to one side while I finish a couple of editing projects I've taken on, then I need to read a couple of my daughter's Jacqueline Wilsons before going back to edit it.
But once the initial editing is finished, how do I get beta readers?
I'm going to ask my daughter to read it - she's 10. I've also considered going onto the TES forums (I am a teacher) and asking a few Year 5 and 6 teachers if they could maybe use it as a book review project or something, but I would also like to get some experienced fiction writers to read it through as well. Readers from the target market are all very well, but I want knowledgeable eyes on it.
Any thoughts, or volunteers? It currently stands at about 33K words, although that will probably change after the first round of edits.
