I've been crawling through the list of publishers/presses on the AW site (which is really helpful, by the way), and found this small press:

http://www.thepermanentpress.com/t-submissions.aspx

Seems like a good candidate for my novel, a small press that publishes stuff that isn't completely commercial or completely art house.

Can anyone recommend publishers similar to the Permanent Press?

BTW, I'm only using this publisher as an example. I know there is already an AW thread on The Permanent Press here: http://absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=132421

Thanks in advance!

Others like Permanent Press I've submitted to are:

Graywolf
Milkweed
McSweeney's
Black Lawrence Press
Soho Press
Unbridled
Ig Publishing?
City Lights Books
Agonquin
Coffee House Press

For me, these are among the cream of the crop... Dream stuff. :)

Thanks, Lily. That's a great list.

If you have a B-list of small presses, what would they be?

In my experience, small presses tend to focus on a single genre or niche market. Lists aren't of much use unless they're confined to the genre the person writes in.
