I'm putting in my resume for a job today that I'm quite well qualified for, but the job description says that applicants will be required to achieve at least a 70% on the Prove It test for Microsoft Word. (I have no idea what that is, but they don't seem to provide any study guides or test references.)

I'm pretty proficient with word processing software in general, but I've been on Open Office for... a while. I don't have much experience with any version Word after 97/2000/XP. I've a little experience with 2007 XML (.docx), but I can't really claim to be proficient at it. I know my way around the new ones enough to do basic stuff, but I'm certainly no expert.

Does anyone know of any free interactive tutorials that would help me brush up on these applications? Interactive is awesome, but videos would be useful as well. PDFs? Books? Anything? :)

Thanks for your time, and when I rule the world, I'll consider letting you all live. :tongue

There are tutorials on YouTube, but I'm not sure if they're really what you're looking for. I would guess that reviewing any basic reference on later versions of Word would get you to that score. Word isn't exactly rocket science.

The Microsoft website has some instructional videos and tutorials.

I bet your public library has several books on MS Word. Get out a couple and review them. Do pay attention to the screen shots; often they'll linger and be most helpful.

YouTube seems to have some tutorials that may be useful, but I have to be careful with videos. I live in the middle of nowhere, which means satellite, and satellite means traffic limits. So I'm trying to decide which videos are going to be useful without actually watching a bunch of them. :tongue

<-----Really, really, really, really hates the hell out of satellite internoobs.

I did that this morning. I got a couple of 'For Dummies' books and one of Microsoft's 'Step by Step' books. I gots me some studyin' to do. :)

The advice is appreciated. :)

You could also download a free trial version of Word (part of Office) from the Microsoft website:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/try/

Not sure how that will go with your download limits but then you could poke around and see it for yourself.
