Is anyone here familiar with HubPages?

Supposed to be an online site where people write about what they know and get paid based on page views, google ads, something like that.

I keep seeing ads for freelance writers for them but I'm skeptical and would like to know if anybody else has written for them.

It is one of the better content sites but still pays in that range. I get about 5-7 dollars per 1000 views there.

Their threshold is $30 and I am at the point of getting paid each month. But I do have over 50 hubs.

Pros: Hubpages is pretty well-established and they are above board in terms of making payments every month. They also have a pretty good page rank compared to other sites of that kind, so you should get a fair to moderate number of page views.

Cons: As for pay, most writers don't make very much unless they write about hot new products people want to buy.

If you plan to write articles around a common theme or topic, I think you are better off creating your own website to showcase your writing. (You'll also keep 100% of the ad revenue.) It's much more common for potential clients to contact a writer after seeing his or her website, than after seeing his or her articles on Hubpages.

There's no harm in trying it. They do not retain any rights to your articles, so you are free to remove them and publish them in other venues if you decide that Hubpages isn't worth it.

Thanks for the responses.

I did sign up for HubPages but what really surprised me/baffled me is the fact that anyone can write for them. It doesn't seem to matter whether you're a good writer or not. Does that mean there are some really crappy articles being written? You have to be approved to write for Demand Studios.

I thought for sure there would be editors involved, but I guess not. And I thought they would tell the writers what to write, but it seems we can write about anything.

I guess I'll give it a try.

You can think of HubPages (and Squidoo) as basically the same thing as a blogging platform (wordpress, blogger, etc) that focuses more on a single page rather than multiple posts.

You can make money using them if you have the skills, which includes SEO as well as wordcraft, but it's not something you are going to put on a resume.

It is a content site. You can write anything but if the quality is terrible it will get taken down.

Hubpages and Squidoo are a like. With the rise of spammers and that these kind of sites(web2.0) are being utilize for promotional reasons. They have gotten strict and hard to approve lens or pages.
