Hopefully, I'm not repeating info posted elsewhere in this forum. But I came across an interesting post about nook (which I found here). According to the article, "the Nook Color’s ownership is now almost 75 percent women, according to a Barnes & Noble executive."

From that same article this quote: "Women buy more e-books than men, with recent research by GfK MRI suggesting women are 52 percent more likely than men to own an e-reader."

I find it particularly interesting because I am female and a nook owner, although, I have the first nook and am seeking the newer black and white (eink) version of nook for Christmas. It might make an interesting poll to see what AW's numbers show, not just in gender of nook ownership but of ereader ownership.

I've got the first-gen Nook - no real plans to go color, that's what I've got my netbook for.

I do love my ebook reader, tho - however, my hubby who works on computers all day won't go near it. He's too tired of working on a screen to look at yet another one, even to read a book.

:)

There's a poll feature, if you go up to edit your original post. It's easy to use and you don't have to know how to do anything special.

How long does your battery last, by the way? My battery was replaced a couple times, my nook once, I rarely do any shopping on it, I keep it on airplane mode, I use the little click buttons on the side to turn pages, I let it sit in powersaving mode, and still I lose about 5% juice a day even if not doing anything. If I am reading on it for a few hours in a row, I can lose about quite a bit in an hour. I think I once calculated if I were to read 8 hours in a row, the battery would be dead.

That is why I am seeking the new nook. They claim a longer battery life. I can't remember if they claimed a couple months? Whatever it was, it sounded huge and impossible given what the first nook does for me. But I thought I might be able to get a half week of active use out of it.

Found it, hopefully it makes sense. I was trying to differentiate between things like nook and iPad--the latter of which I think can do a lot more than read ebooks, such as watch movies?

Jodi

PS: thanks for pointing it out. I never knew how to do a poll here before.

Ah, good! It's a cool little feature that compiles the pertinent info in a thread. Otherwise, you'd have to come through it and add it up every time someone weighed it.

Glad you found it!

Mine lasts a few days with a few hours every day's reading on it - but I've had no problems with it. I shop both on the nook itself and on the computer without any problems.

I recharge it when it gets below fifty percent and usually just leave it on the charger overnight. No big for me.

My first-gen Nook lasts about 6 -8 days on a full charge, but like Sheryl, I just charge it while I'm sleeping and it's no problem.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't covet the new black & white touch Nook. I don't care about Nook color at all.

Luvs my Nook.

I'm an early-adopter. I have an iPad, a Nook Color, an Acer Iconia A100, and a Sylvania 7" mini-tab. I used to have a Tungsten T2 until it was stolen because I was stupid. I've had laptops and mini- computers since the days of the TSR pocket computer or the old green screen machines running at 16 MHz or less.

If I had more money I'd have more tablets, but then I'd have less money. It's such a vicious circle...

Without knowing the gender ration of the sample, the gender ration fo the answer so not terrible informative--at least without adding an 'I do not own an ebook reader or other device I use for ebook reading' as an option.

I'm not sure I understand. I think you are saying I should have an "I don't own . . . " option, right? I'm not good with polls, but my intent was just to poll people who had ereaders or things like iPhones/iPads and read ebooks on them to see the gender balance of owners in particular for nook but also for other ereaders or devices that can read ebooks. Or in a nutshell, I was trying to poll owners of ereaders and ebook devices and to also capture data on their gender.

Perhaps you mean, have an option like "I am (gender) and only read ebooks on the computer?"

Thanks,
Jodi

Just have to share, as of today, I own the new nook, the Simple Touch. I like it, but I'm not sure if there is a problem with it already (on the wifi) or not. I have to wait till I get into a wifi spot again to see if it corrects itself. But other than that? I'm liking it so far.

So, now I'm the owner of two nooks, the 1st edition and the simple touch (also black and white).

Oh, and just for odd information, as I was leaving, I heard one employee ask the lady how many nooks she had sold that day. She said three: two colors and one simple touch (mine). That was as of 1 pm or so. Makes me wonder if that is a good sale rate or not.....

That would be a great sale rate for our store. I sold a color and three touch in an eight-hour shift yesterday, which was good for a weekday in a month with no major gift holidays.

That's interesting, JS. After hearing what I heard, I wondered at the sale rate.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, I think I witnessed one of the color sales--to a man buying a present for his wife. So, two of the three nooks ended up going to women. :) What did you usually see at your place of business? Mostly women buying the nook? Or pretty much equal across the genders?
