May he rest in peace. His life was short, but what an amazing life it was.

Even though I was never a fan of Apple, no one can deny he changed the tech world as we know it. I was really saddened to hear this. :(

I guess he knew he wouldn't be around for long. He resigned right before his death.

He said that the knowledge of death so close made him more fearless and more willing to experiment, create and take chances. (I don't know his exact words, but that was the message.)

May we all live like that.

I remember using the Macintosh and trying to get the company I worked for at the time to buy one because they were so damned user friendly. There was, at the time, already a graphic design program called Ready-Set-Go that blew everything else away for simplicity and ease of use and combining word processing and image design (they went for IBM x386s and spent over $15k on 2 machines over the course of a 5 year lease). This was in 1985-86 at the latest. Jobs was already 20 years ahead of his time then (I continued to use RSG through about 1990-92 for a variety of applications anytime I could get access to a Mac).

I currently own several tablets. Windows tablets have been available for almost a decade, but it was the iPad that pointed the way to the tablet revolution. Nothing is easier to use than the iPad.

Inventor. Innovator. Marketer. Entrepreneur. Genius. None of these words come close. Jobs changed our world in ways we are only beginning to become aware of now that he's gone. He was, and continues to be the Edison of the last half of the 20th Century and his influence will be felt through the first half of the 21st at least if not for a long time thereafter. One of the greatest compliments that can be paid to Steve is when someone walks into a Walmart and says "Where are your iPods?" and doesn't really mean an iPod - every mp3 player is an iPod to some people. That's the genius of Steve Jobs - he made every phone need to be an iPhone, every mp3 player need to be an iPod, every tablet need to be an iPad.

Rest in peace, Steve. Even those of us who are "PC" people owe you a huge debt of thanks for the contributions you made to our every day lives. You will be missed, but you will be remembered.

My very first desktop computer was an Apple IIe. I still miss it. He certainly was one of the top creative geniuses of our time.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family. He fought for so long, and I hope he finds peace in Heaven.

He truly was a great man, no one deserves to die that way. But we will all miss him- we may not know him- but we will miss knowing he is alive and inventing new and improved apple products.

Rest in peace Steve and God bless to everyone touched by your life and death.

He changed the world. That's for sure.

Writing this on an iPad. Listening to music on an iPod. Write stories on an iMac.

A Giant for sure. Not an angel from many accounts but it takes a Giant like him to have achieved what he did. That he will never be remembered for being "nice" or "kind", probably because he was not known for those qualities, simply does not matter. His Greatness is his legacy. RIP, Steve Jobs, a Giant who was truly the change he wanted to see.

Purple Rose he was nice and kind. There was a story one of my friends posted on Facebook from CNN explaining how Steve took it upon himself to get this woman's MacBook fixed, made the calls. He even paid to get her drive replaced. Don't think Bill Gates ever did anything such as that. Steve was a class act. RIP Steve Jobs.

Thanks for this Trw78Writes. Good to know. It's just that over the years it's always been about his greatness with hardly anything about his goodness. I must admit that this is the first such story I've read and it makes a nice change.

I don't think it serves anyone to compare the two men. Bill Gates has pledged to give away most of his fortune. He also has given millions, if not billions, to various charities all over the world. I know he and his wife have donated to vaccination programs in the poorest parts of the world.

Thanks, Jaksen.

There is no comparison between Jobs and Gates, as they both did great things for technology as well as helped other people. As for nice or not nice, who cares? Nobody is perfect, and "nice" can often be in one's perception. :)

I worked for both of them; both are people, with all the virtues and flaws that implies. Both were/are capable of great arrogance, great cruelty and great kindness. Like people.
