I remember using the Macintosh and trying to get the company I worked for at the time to buy one because they were so damned user friendly. There was, at the time, already a graphic design program called Ready-Set-Go that blew everything else away for simplicity and ease of use and combining word processing and image design (they went for IBM x386s and spent over $15k on 2 machines over the course of a 5 year lease). This was in 1985-86 at the latest. Jobs was already 20 years ahead of his time then (I continued to use RSG through about 1990-92 for a variety of applications anytime I could get access to a Mac).
I currently own several tablets. Windows tablets have been available for almost a decade, but it was the iPad that pointed the way to the tablet revolution. Nothing is easier to use than the iPad.
Inventor. Innovator. Marketer. Entrepreneur. Genius. None of these words come close. Jobs changed our world in ways we are only beginning to become aware of now that he's gone. He was, and continues to be the Edison of the last half of the 20th Century and his influence will be felt through the first half of the 21st at least if not for a long time thereafter. One of the greatest compliments that can be paid to Steve is when someone walks into a Walmart and says "Where are your iPods?" and doesn't really mean an iPod - every mp3 player is an iPod to some people. That's the genius of Steve Jobs - he made every phone need to be an iPhone, every mp3 player need to be an iPod, every tablet need to be an iPad.
Rest in peace, Steve. Even those of us who are "PC" people owe you a huge debt of thanks for the contributions you made to our every day lives. You will be missed, but you will be remembered.
