Now, I like dinosaurs and zombies as much as the next guy, but there's some other great stuff these days.

Prohibition is a fascinating three part series on PBS about an intrinsically interesting part of American history. How it came about is far more complex than the usual narrative that it was all driven by moral biddies determined to stamp out sin.

The complex interplay between religion, politics, money, the immigrant influx, and even WWI makes for a compelling story.

And as always, the archival photos and film clips are top rated.

I highly recommend it, even to people who don't think they'd be interested. Part 2 tonight, but they'll be reshowing it all, I'm sure.

I'm enjoying it. It's eerie, how so much of what was going on in the US then, is happening right now. It's just cloaked a little differently.
Wow, you too?

Burns never draws any parallels, but it's striking, is it not? But in a way it's comforting. We think politicians now are bad? Take a look at those guys. And yet, we survived and prospered. (Of course there was that little matter of the Depression in between)

I, too, found part 1 fascinating. One thing especially, the virulent anti-German sentiment. Explains why parts of my family changed the spelling of their name from Schneider to Snyder.
