ladycascadia
This morning, I was surfing for information and I noticed this message board. I read several of the posts re: POD publishing and other topics. I liked what I read, so I decided to join up.
My real name is Sabrina, but I prefer to be identified online as ladycascadia since most of my poetry and songs are about life and love in the pacific northwestern US and Canada, hence the "cascadia" moniker. As for the "lady" part, well I AM a lady (at least in the drawing room LOL).
At any rate, I have a real passion for poetry and music. I've been writing poetry and composing songs on my guitar since childhood, but it's only been in the past few years that I've become serious about actually doing something about it...and actually getting some support from others for pursing that goal. That "something" has included getting a chapbook published at lulu.com, maintaining a website, blogging, starting a local poet's circle, networking with other poets/songwriters, arranging poetry and tea related special events, and entering various lyrics/new song competitions.
This month, I made the first round for a "new song" contest at the University of Oregon in Eugene, and move onto the finals in May 2006. The ultimate winner of nine contestants will sing their original song center stage at the Willamette Valley Folk Festival.
Money-wise, I've not made squat, but for me the personal satisfaction makes me feel far richer than any dollars that can be pressed into my hands. However, it is my hope and prayer that 2006 will be the "breakthrough" year for me in terms of being recognized financially for my songwriting, and perhaps finally make that demo CD and do the album project of songs and spoken word poetry that I've wanted to make for so long.
Looking forward to reading more postings, and adding a few posts of my own from time to time.
