Try saving the folder with all the dll files somewhere then running your 'update driver' option on the printer. You may find that it will now detect the new driver files and associate them with the printer. This assumes that the above does not work (as it sounds much easier...).
Alternatively, there is sometimes software with your printer that manages the updates on the drivers... try running that to see what happens (check all menus etc for 'update drivers' or 'check for updates'). This software usually does it all behind the scenes so you don't have to know what is happening...

You may have to poke around a few times browsing for the right folder, but it might work. Also look for anything that has "install" in its filename. Sometimes you have to both run the installer and browse with the Windows Stupid.

I downloaded the EXE, and there's a Vista_Install.pdf in the parent folder. If you're using Windows Vista or Windows 7, you've got the instructions right there.
Otherwise, you can try and right click on CAP3SETK.INF and select Install, but no guarantee's that this will install properly.

I contacted Canon and they told me that they don't have a driver for that model which is compatible with Windows 64.
So that's that! Either Windows 32bit or wait until I can install my salvaged hard drive into a new machine.

Ow. Yeah, I had to buy a new scanner when I got my present computer. *sigh* You can be forward-compatible, or you can be backward-compatible, but you can't be equally both.
