Having a good birthday today, but the best is this: a story I'd been struggling with jumped up and wrote the last 2000 words by itself this morning.

So I'll have cake and candles and cheer, but my best present is a rare one that only people in here will appreciate.

Oh, not about to change the title. I love the idea of sitting down every morning, sure of nothing but crap and then, a line pops up, then a character takes over and, hey, there's something good there when I started with crap.

I can't always write even a hundred good words a day. But I can always, always, write a lot of crap.

And if I don't, I never dig my way to the pony buried in the middle of the crap.
