RIP Brian Jacques

I didn't see this posted here.

Brian Jacques died in early Feb 2011 at the age of 71.

He was one of my favorite authors and the one who got my obsessed with reading. I was 9 or 10 and I picked up a random book of my brother's (boxed Redwall set that had never been read) so I could read it to my stuffed animals. One paragraph in and I abandoned my stuffed animals to read in my room.

I never knew him much as a person, but after I had heard of his passing I looked him up on YT to hear him talk about his books. He was freaking amazing and hilarious to listen to, which makes me miss him even more. It's been over 6 months, and I still tear up when I think of it. I only have about 4 absolute favorite authors, and he was one of them.

RIP, Brian Jacques.

Oh, darn. Such a loss.

I had just discovered the Redwall series with Marlfox. Loved it. I'm still going to hunt down some more of his books.

The original three books will always be my favorites: Redwall, Mossflower, and Mattimeo. I loved the mice!

And his newish series, Castaways of the Flying Dutchmen was intriguing as well.

Our son is 25, long since on his own. When he took his things from home for that first apartment, he took his Redwall books. We shared a sense of loss when their author died.

I hadn't heard about this, sorry to hear about his passing. I used to read every Redwall book as soon as it came out. He will certainly be missed.

It didn't get much...press. I only had caught the article on Google news in the book section, and it only stayed there a few hours before it shifted out.

He told some amazing stories. I really like the Castaway's Concept and Redwall and Mossflower are classics for me. Definitely was a huge influence on my love of reading as well.

I was working at a children's bookstore when Redwall first came out. I loved to read it when things were slow.

That previous thread is how I found out about his death. I get a lot of news through reading AW.

Really? I had no idea about that. I also didn't realize his age. My favorite Redwall book was Marlfox.

He had incredible talent as a storyteller; a huge influence on my son's love of reading. He will be missed--but loved forever.
