Separating Facebook author and personal pages

Is it possible to create a Facebook author page that is separate from a personal page?

I'm just setting up an author page, but the admin listed is my name from my personal page (a different name).

In essence, I want to keep my personal and author page posts completely separate.

Any help is much appreciated.

Oh, yah. You can have more than one account. If I was consistent enough and put forth the energy, I'd create another account for hidden agendas and even an author page. You'd have to go with another name though, I think.

I currently have three FB accounts + an author (snicker) page. Snicker is for me only, as I have no real use for it. Other people may have a legitimate need.

I have:
1. My true real name that friends from high school, college, former cities etc use.
2. An online name that I've used for many years in social forums. It looks like a real FirstName LastName.
3. A pen name persona that I recently set up.
4. Author page I set up wrong. This may be where you are now. I set it up using my Real Name account, as it had to be linked to a personal account. I wish now I'd created my Pen Name account and then linked the author page to that instead.

There's a way to unlink the author page and then set it up again, but I don't know how. My husband had a business page unlinked and then linked up again to another account, but he paid someone to do it. It was quick, but you just need to know the secret way to do it.

I'd recommend setting up your pen name personal account first, then linking the author page to that. I know the official FB rules say you can't have more than one account, but a lot of people do. You just have to use different email addresses to set up.

I have seven accounts. Personal, author, a book page, an advocate group, one for my younger friends and family, and two fake people to keep a eye on the trolls who mess with my advocate page.

I deleted a few so I'm actually 'down' to seven

Actually, I had a previous account under an assumed name, but weird Romanians were hitting on me because of the name.

I just keep the one FB account, but I have an author page, a page for my current book, and a page for the blog that I run. I will sometimes send people who send me friend requests to the author page, and that's what I list as my public "Facebook page."

Open the author account with your author email.

If you want to keep them separate, you have to actually separate the accounts. And don't friend yourself. Or people who are friends with your author account.

Yes, but HOW do you separate the accounts? I've not been able to find out the process.

Generally you have to have one account per e-mail address. However, one thing to bear in mind (having been caught by this once) is that if someone reports you as using a fake name they will close your account for T&C violations and will not allow you to reopen it with that e-mail address again.

It's rare that you will get caught (many of my friends post under fake names) but it only takes on person to report you so it is something to be aware of.

Thanks for the warning, Areteus. With my luck, I'd be the one caught.

I'm thinking I'll stick to one account and two pages, and hide the author posts on the personal page.

Still, that begs the question: when I post on someone else's wall, I'm assuming my official account ID will be posted. Which is fine, for personal posts. But while posting in my author hat, I'd like my author name to be listed. That possible?

I don't know how my husband's contact did it. It didn't take long, I know.

I found this page about FB accounts but it doesn't directly answer your question. I think FB keeps things muddy on purpose.

Technically no, but I've got 4. 3 of them are just to play a facebook game.

I was under the impression that you have to have a standard personal account as the named admin, in order to have a Page at all. You can post to the Page as your Author self very simply by just choosing "Use Facebook as Page" from the dropdown menu in the top right corner (assuming they haven't moved things around again!).

I recommend using different profile pictures on your main account and page account, at the very least, otherwise it can get very confusing!

ETA - I have two Facebook accounts, one in my maiden name which I use for work stuff (including being the admin on our project page), one in this name that I use for writerly business. They're both my real name, so I don't see how Facebook can complain

Just to add to Anne's suggestion above, once you're in your Author page, click Edit Page at upper right and go to Your Settings. Check the box that says "Always comment and post on your page as [author self], even when using Facebook as [real name]."

So can you post on other people's pages as your author self, instead of your personal self (for want of a better descriptor)? That is, if I'm posting as my author self, will that show up in my personal self news feed?

My personal (real name) account is linked to my pen name author page. My pen name account is not linked to the author page. I set up the pen name account after I'd set up the author page.

A = real name
B = author page using pen name
C = pen name

On A I can switch to B the same way she said above. BUT - if I post from B, it shows up as my real name, not the pen name. You can't post from a "page" - only from a personal account. At least I think so.

I think, to show up as a posting from your pen name, your pen name (not your real name) account would have to be linked to your author page.

I set mine up wrong. Should have created the pen name account and then did an author page off of that, instead of off my real name account.

I hope this makes sense ... and remember FB changes frequently so who knows for next month ...

I did what you did--setting up an author page off my real name account.

So, does having the pen-name account allow you to post under your author name and have it show up on other people's facebook pages as your author name?

Sorry if I've got it mixed up. My head is about to explode.
