Hi mods - I couldn't find a post on this...

How do we notify you about a post on a thread that deserves replies but is far enough off-topic to require splitting off into a new thread, perhaps in a completely different section of the site?

E.g.

http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6572266&postcount=886

(Or indeed about duplicate/similar threads that would benefit from merging)

Use the Report Post button (the little red and white triangle at the bottom of every post) on the post in question. In the comments section, you can let us know why you're reporting it (ie, that you think it could be split into a new thread).

Really? Huh.

There has been some abuse of the feature in the past, so perhaps the warning was added as a way to discourage folks from reporting every tiny thing that dings their bell?

Another option is to PM the room mod with a link to the post in question, if you aren't comfortable using the Report Post. :)

Report post is a fine option, but I'd PM the mod were it me, since you won't have the possibility of multiple mods attempting to merge/split/move/make mad passionate love with the same post at the same time.

What CT and Med said, Anne. I usually just blanket PM the mods of the forum to alert them to stuff like duplicated posts and threads that are on the verge of going nuclear (so they can keep an eye on it as opposed to shutting it down).
