Who might publish an article about young adult literature?

Hi all,

I'm a newish freelance writer, and one of my areas of expertise is YA fiction. I was a YA librarian for six years, have been writing book reviews for major review journals since 2008.

I'm trying to brainstorm specific article topics as well as types of websites and magazines that might be interested. Here are some topics off the top of my head.

Topics
- lists of YA books about a certain topic/for a certain kind of reader
- feminist analysis of current dystopian romance trend
- book reviews
- YA book gift guide

I've looked through Writers Market and noted a few parenting magazines - any other ideas as to who might be interested in these topics?

Hope this is the right forum for this kind of question. I'm still new here and learning!

I'd go right for the professional journals read by librarians, frankly.

Even if you submit to one that doesn't pay, it's a credit that gives you an entré to paying journals in the field.

Parenting magazines would give you access to parents, who buy lots of books for their children--but they're usually bought by new parents, with young children, and not parents of children who might be interested in YA books.

I think Medievalist's advice is sound.

Thanks for the suggestions! I've actually written a couple of articles for librarian-specific journals, but I could definitely do more.

I'd also suggest a YA lit blog, wherein you reach out to librarians, teachers, writers, and readers.

There are some super YA blogs out there already--if you want me to suggest some I can--and super librarian blogs, but I can't think of a YA Librarian who has a blog (which doesn't mean that there isn't one, just that I don't know of it).

I think Hunger Mountain takes articles on literature, but I'm not sure about lists.

Magazines for the YA reader might be good too. You could slant your gift lists to the Seventeen audience. Gift Books for any Boyfriend, for example. Could be fun.
