little gift, big bow

SFF Sekrit Santa Spectacular
2K11 Edition

Fenika bugged me via email for this SO! Folks! Time to charge up them lazerz because it's gift-giving time.

THE RULES

To make my life easy, please put SIGNUP in your thread in very visible fontness.

1) When you sign up, you put up a prompt of what you would like to receive in your gift. This can be anything, a word, a quote, an author name, an idea, a theme, whatever. Just give your gifter a direction to run in. Also specify things such as, are you okay with violence, sex, swearing, gore, and whatever-all-else censors tell us we should not enjoy so much. Unless otherwise specified, gifter will be able to assume all bets are off.

2) Signing up to RECEIVE a gift means signing up to GIVE a gift. No exceptions. We've never failed, so let's keep this train rolling. Choo choo!

3) However, signing up to GIVE a gift does not necessarily mean signing up to RECEIVE a gift. Last year someone wanted to give a story but didn't want to get a story. That means one lucky person got bonus double-oh-story. Please specify this in your signup post.

4) Stories must be no shorter than 2K, unless the receiver specifies that they enjoy/prefer flash.

5) If there is someone/something you don't want to write for, for whatever reason, please PM me with your request. I will do my steady-best to honor it.

It is often asked who owns the story. The writer does of course. The gift is to read a story based on your prompt.

I can't wait any more ;)

SIGNUP

I'd like a Dark Historical Fantasy, similar to some of Guy Gavriel Kay's work, only Dark. Maybe more Andrej Sapkowski. Castles/forts, horses, heroines are a bonus. Violence, sex, swearing, gore, and whatever-all-else are a double bonus, but all need not be included.

Have fun, and explore a twisted path.

No raspberries for YOU, lady.

Dempsey, I'm in. SIGN ME UP.

Directions to my giver: Write me a science fiction story. As long as the main theme is SF, anything else goes.

Sign me up, too. :)

I'd like something SF with some historical bits (kind of like in Doctor Who when they visit important people in history or historical events.) Language, sex and violence are all okay. :)

I was just waiting for this thread to appear :D

So, SIGNUP!

Prompt-thing: Fantasy, preferably low. I'm a sucker for stories set in a single city, and thieves/assassins/mysterious cults and a conspiracy are always a bonus, and add some extra brownie points for horses, hawks and rowboats. Late medieval/Renaissance/Baroque-inspired second-world setting. Preferably male MC, and preferably one who's on the wrong side of the law. Shades of grey are very nice. Romance not necessary. Again, I am very fond of stories where the MC got into trouble thanks to his own actions.

No vampires/zombies, but I'm fine with sex/violence/swearing/that stuff. Wellll... maybe not bestiality/fetishes like necrophilia and the likes.

Scott Lynch/GRRM/Terry Pratchett are my favourite writers.

Whee.

A prompt to Actually Write Something Instead of Being a Lazy Slacker Writer That I Truly Am.

Uh. Whaddoiwant? I'm cool on SF or F. Love dystopia, though I'm pretty sure I requested that in all other previous challenges, so feel free to ignore. I want an unlikely hero. I don't need a grand story - I don't need hero-saves-the-world - I'm more of a fan of hero-becomes.

As to rating, I'm a growed-up, and I can take pretty much anything. I'm totes cool with non-hetero, if there's romance, but I tend towards preferring m/m over f/f

To be more specific...

MC starts the story standing at the edge of a cliff. [literal/metaphorical/hypothetical]

Per my rules, you can't jump. There is no bottom.

But you can't just turn around and walk away.

Have fun.

Signing up to both receive and give and no this isn't because it's 2am.

Oh, bugger. I'm in. Sign me up!

Hm. Prompt time. Eh... I'm not really picky. I prefer fantasy over science fiction and urban fantasy is definitely a plus. I'd prefer a male MC. Preferably no werewolves, vampires, or other European monsters. Magic is fine, but preferably not elemental. Um... bugs are fun. Preferably normal-sized bugs. With attitude.

Humor, also a plus. But not the focus. Like, not humorous fantasy per se, but if the characters have a sense of humor, that's a big plus. Also, port towns for non-urban fantasy, big plus. And pretty lights. Like lanterns and stuff. Paper lanterns earn double happy points. :D

Please no sex. Romance is fine, but really, anything more than a very slightly passionate kiss is a little too much detail for me. Violence is fine, but preferably easy on the gore. I can handle swearing, but please limit it as much as possible to "damn" and maybe the occasional "bastard".

And I'm perfectly fine if you have an idea completely unrelated to what I've laid out, because like I said, I'm not picky. I just want to make sure there's plenty of idea fodder. :)

This has always seemed like such a fun event, but I've never had the chance to participate. I iz excited. :D

Prompty: Mythological figures go skiing (but it can be SF or F). Yes to any naughty words, violence, or sexytimes :D

Oh heck.

Sign me up!

You know, what I'd really like is a historical fantasy with paranormal critters. Like elves at Agincourt or something. (As an example. Can be any time period/culture/critter. Though, elves at Agincourt would *also* be fine.)

I'm not into *excessive* gore, but I don't mind dark. I also don't mind light. Romance is fine. Sex is fine. I'm open to more than just m/f. Have fun.

Sounds fun. Sign me up, please!

I'm fine with language, sex, violence, gore, etc. I'd like a dark story with some dry, witty humor if possible (humor can be tough though, so if you think you'll have problems pulling that off, skip it). A little mystery worked in could be fun. I love female MCs that kick ass. Either SF or F is OK with me. I prefer Urban on the fantasy side, but I'm open to any good story.

What the hey. Sign me up! :D

Prompt:

I'd love to read something involving dragons as the misunderstood and much maligned good guys set in a medieval period. Violence, gore and bad language are fine. No smex, if you please. Humor a plus, but not necessary. I'm thinking old school DragonLance-ish (Legend of Huma, Dragons of Spring Dawing, etc, etc, etc).

What if we're not sure we are strong enough of a writer to do anything any justice and our recipient feels like they got a crappy story and then it would make me cry because I don't know if I can handle the pressure of knowing that they got some crappy story for christmas and....[breath]

SIGN ME UP!

Prompt: this one was hard. I suck at prompts. My interests are varied as far as subject is concerned it's hard to pin down. But if you need something... gearwork chickens. [flails] Otherwise, I'm really easy to please. Really.

I'm OK: Anything Fantasy, UF, Romance, Erotica, Mystery, Horror, Steampunk, ANYpunk, SciFi, schmoop, HEA, HFN, most tame kinks (just not a kinky bearilou, sorry :( ), blood, cliche, tropes, low flying metaphors, HUMOR, heroics, buckles getting swashed.

I like knights and pirates and thieves and magics and dragons and magical ponies and treasures and ghosts and improbable spaceships and...pretty much anything fantastical be it gritty or sparkly, historical or space-based.

I'm NOT OK: Stronger body fluid kinks, abuse of any description, unrelenting angst, super dark themes that show no bright outcomes.

Reading examples (ie what is on my bedside table TBR): Lies of Locke Lamora, Soulless, Child of Fire, Agents of Artifice, Swordspoint, Devil in the Details, Unshapely Things, The count of Monte Cristo, Legends of Charlemagne, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Live Free or Die, The Elenium, The Black Company, Servant of the Shard, Flesh and Spirit, The Spirit Lens, The Demon Princes, Eisenhorn, Little Fuzzy Space Viking, Anvil of Stars, Monster Hunter International

note: Having been involved with fannish SS projects before, I learned to be very specific, so I hope that my list doesn't come across as being prohibitive. It's not really. Pretty much anything will be fine so long as it's something that would be printed for public consumption.

Okay, that got longer than I anticipated. Um...sorry? :D

Cheering you all on!
Ahhh, what the heck,

Sign me up

I'm cool with almost all fantasy and with soft sci-fi. Teen or younger protags would probably be best, but are not a must.

My prompt is to make it a Christmas story :D

I'm not into gore or graphic sex. Swearing's okay, if applicable, but I'm not a big fan of the F-word. Potty humor is not my cup of tea either.

Recalculating....
I'm in.

Yup: I like UF, Sci-Fi, all forms of fantasy, steampunk, mystery, etc, etc, etc. Anything with quirky characters that I can sink my teeth into. Humor is a major plus. I'm kind of a Pollyanna, so I love stories where the bad-guys get their comeuppance, the hero/heroine gets the girl/boy, and Don Quixote finally kills the windmill. Swearing is okay if it fits the scene/character, but not when every other word is the F-Bomb.

Nope: Graphic sex (a little bow-chica-bow-wow is okay, but I don't need a play-by-play), over-gore, dark-dark-dark-dark themes, satanic stuff, F-Carpet-Bombing (although creative cursing is fantastic), whining/brooding/pessimistic MCs, kicking of kittens, etc.
