I just found this site today while I was trying to brainstorm for the novel I'm working on. Browsing through the forums, I can tell this site is going to be very helpful.
I have problems finishing things I start, so I'm hoping maybe these forums will help keep me on track.
Welp, just wanted to say hi. :)

Welcome, friend. Glad I am to welcome another writer to AW. :) I have the same problem as you, in finishing things that I start. Unfortunately while I stop writing the first thing I move onto a second or third without completing the first. -It happens frequently with me. Heheh.

I too have a hard time finishing what I start. Then I decided I was going to push through and finish my rough draft. When i did that I pushed through revisions. It's all about keeping your eye on the goal. You can do it! Oh, and welcome!

Welcome to AW. Hope you enjoy your stay with us.
How do you like your popcorn?

If you go to the bottom of the page to the 'forum jump' you can scroll down and find all the areas of this place. After you post 50 posts you can use the SYW areas to get help there. The password for some of the areas is…..vista. A word to the wise, it would be a good idea to participate first in helping others before you think about posting your own work. After you have been around here for awhile, then post something of your own for help. Good luck.

Still finding my feet and navigating my way through this excellent site. Picked up so much info through browsing/lurking during past few days.

So, rather than start a new thread, I too would just like to say "Hi".

Hi.

Hope to become more active in coming weeks.

Hello!
I have problems finishing what I'm working on too. A lot of times I get half or three quarters of the way through and get hit by that feeling that the story sucks and there is no point in finishing it. Just keep pushing. Something I learned here, even if you think you're writing poor prose, you're still writing and that's the main thing! Good luck!

Seriously

I went to a writers' conference and several speakers addressed the issue of finishing. One of the best was John Lescroart, he said to set a goal, whether it was a page a day (250 words) or a chapter, whatever. Just write, even if it's a recipe or a joke. He does and people ask him why he sometimes has 'crazy' or 'unusual' things in his books. That's why. His first published book sold 4 mil copies.

Just write. It works. I came back and set a goal of 1,000 words per day. I didn't quite achieve it. I wrote 26K in 28 days. I finished the book.
